louboutins....worth the investment?

I am umming and ahhing about a pair of louboutins....insane amount of money but they are so lovely (timeless, black high heels). Been invited to a cocktail party at Xmas and would love to use it as an excuse to dress up. Just wondering whether they are really worth it and whether they are, dare I say it, heading into WAG land....??? interested to hear your thoughts! Thanks!

Nah,I think they still look fab. But Brian Atwood does such gorgeous ones too,I would be very tempted-as have the a-list-to go for a pair of his.

BitOfFun · 18/11/2010 08:17

Investment? Do you expect them to increase in value?

Think of them as 'cost per wear'- what does it look like then? Are you totally convinced you won't want new party shoes until 2017?

nellieloula · 18/11/2010 10:51

Thanks for that - will certainly check out Brian Atwood woppsidaisy. And, yes 'cost per wear' was what I meant by 'investment' Bitof fun.... and very good point about no more shoes until 2017!! Good way to think about it...back to the drawing board!

jsut paint your shoes wiht red nail varnish

Earlybird · 18/11/2010 10:57

Do you have the sort of household income where buying them is not a big item in your overall budget?

How frequently does your lifestyle call for shoes like this (ie - how often would you wear them)?

How about using cinderella me and hiring a pair of them, the site all reviewers have said shoes are very clean and they use UV to clean them and kill germs.

If you have a pair or two of Loubies and look after them really well, you can wheel them out for special occasions for years to come. They do add a certain touch of panache to an elegant outfit.

otchayaniye · 18/11/2010 21:05

I have had 4 pairs over the years. I used to live in Asia and had too much disposable income...

Anyway. Only one pair I regularly wear and that is a gorgeous pair of nudey coloured python heels and they are a 1970s style copy of a 1940s style shoe. 3-1/2 inch heel, rounded toe, little short at the front and are timeless and the nude goes with everything. I shall wear these for years. I bought them when I was drunk after winning money at black jack, so they always remind me of a fun, reckless, nihilistic time.

I think some of his shoes are very tarty worn in a non high-fashion way. I also think some of them are too high. There is nothing - NOTHING - more unflattering than someone done up to the nines teetering about in shoes they can't really walk confidently in. It looks shit. I know, I flogged the Louboutins I couldn't walk in properly after one bad night in them.

I wish wish wish they didn't have the red soles as I don't like them to be noticed as Louboutins. Well not now you could see someone in a Yates' wearing them.

Nina Dolcetti, Georgina Goodman, Pierre Hardy - shit, there are so many $$$ shoe designers out there at the moment -- ready to sponge up your readies.

they're quite chavvy now aren't they

HalfTermHero · 18/11/2010 21:36

YSL are more well known for comfort, even amongst their highest heels. I don't think Loubies are chav at all. Not many chavs have £800 to drop on a pair of rarely worn shoes. Obviously fakes are chav, but I would say the same of fake Louis Vuitton or Chanel bags and shoes also.

otchayaniye · 18/11/2010 21:45

I never got on with YSLs, I found the length of toe and where the heel is placed is weird on me.

I'm a 35/36 and find your standard court style Louboutins fairly comfortable in that the heel is placed where it should be.

Still, if I had money to spunk on silly shoes again, I'd go for something more unusual, such as nina dolcetti.

oh, they come up small as well (if you're buying online), go for half a size up.

Maryqueenofchocs · 18/11/2010 21:48

nellie completely worth it. Buy them, you will not regret a single hundred penny.

southeastastra · 18/11/2010 21:49

am talking as chav being a fashion term, like barbour

a name to be seen in iykwim

otchayaniye · 18/11/2010 21:50

Can I add that if you are thinking of getting black, because it goes with everything and is so more useful and therefore a better purchase, don't.

Get a skin or an unusual colour. There's something very classy about a fuck-me heel in an unexpected colour - takes the high-class hooker aspect out of them.

They would be a good buy! A nude shade goes with most everything. Decs are not the most comfortable style out there though. The heel to toe drop is quite steep. Try them and see what you think though. NAP do free returns Smile. Go for your usual size, imo.

CHOOGIRL · 18/11/2010 23:31

I wear Louboutins and am definitely not a chav or a hooker. I have several pairs including three black pairs which I wear mainly for work. Agree they add something to my dull work suits. The thing to watch is the heel height. I generally go for 85mm - much higher makes walking challenging.

Definitely worthy the money for me. I broke the heel on an escalator a couple of years ago and CL replaced them free of charge.

They generally come up small ime.

nellieloula · 19/11/2010 07:19

Thanks everyone- and good tip on the nude front. Hadn't thought of that. Getting more tempting by the day....!
