OK wise ladies, I need some (online) jeans purchasing help

I don't venture into S&B very often on account of living in the sticks and having a young dog, so the answer to 'What are you wearing' would normally be wellies & mud! However, my jeans are making me unhappy. I kept promising myself that I'd go to Brix thingy Smart's shop in London and get fitted, but with a 4 month puppy that ain't happening any time soon, so I need some decent jeans, and I need to buy them online.

Who does good denim online with a good (read: free) delivery/returns policy?

I'm 30ish, no kids, definitely don't want to be too mumsy but can't bear very low hanging jeans either. Want a couple of different types, prob including new skinnies and some nice straight legs. I don't mind spending a bit for decent cut & quality but am not very label fussed.

I currently have ancient semi-skinnies from Gap, boyfriend fat day from Replay that were expensive and not very flattering, and boot cut from Next that the arse hangs off me after 10 minutes of wearing them. I am the heavy side of a size 12 so would prob order 12-14, apple shaped.

Can you help?!

well - gap does free delivery/returns if you spend more than fifty quid. So do John Lewis, where they seem to have a reasonable selection of the higher priced designers. Sometimes Uniqlo do free postage/returns i think.

The thing about jeans is you have to try them on. why not start with ordering a few pairs from the gap - see where that gets you?

Someone on here was talking about marks and spencer doing nice and v cheap skinny jeans a few weeks ago. They didn't look all that nice to me in the photo, but they had good reviews. Uniqlo also have had good reviews on here.

I am a paige fan, but they cost a fortune, and I like low-rise skinny jeans which I don't think you're looking for.

How about looking on net a porter? They have very good photos and descriptions - very detailed about how high the rise is etc.

I hope that helps! Good luck

I like Next jeans, know I'm in minority here on mn but when I wear jeans from next people comment that they are nice. Would agree that M&S skinnies linked earlier are not that nice, the pockets are too small to be flattering, IMO, they're ok for cheap skinny jeans (got some last year) but do tend to shrink, lengthwise anyway, mine are too short now, and I def haven't grown taller Grin

I think its the free delivery and returns thats going to be a problem to be honest.

I do think with jeans you need to try loads on to find the right shape and style for you.

Would try gap, new look, oasis etc for cheaper ones. If you want 'designer' denim than NAP is excellent but delivery is £10.

notinmypocket · 18/11/2010 13:38

I wouldn't buy jeans online. You are almost certain to have to return them and it's just not worth the hassle and disappointment

I have these. I'm on my second pair (but sold the first on ebay, so price was offset!) as have lost weight. I'm an apple too, and they come to just below the navel, so not low rise. I suggest buying a 31?

omnishambles · 18/11/2010 13:51

Uniqlo very good ime andthey often have free p&p going on.

In fact they sent me a voucher - 10quid off if you spend 50 if you put SPECIAL10 in before sunday night...

30andMerkin · 18/11/2010 13:54

Thanks all, would never have thought of using NAP for jeans.

It's either a lot of hassle and postage returning jeans, or a lot of hassle and the cost of putting the puppy in kennels/daycare for a day, so I was hoping for the former!

Keep 'em coming!

OR - how about ASOS? they do free returns and if you spend loads, which you will, getting a few pairs to try, you get free next day delivery. They have a huge range there. Why not order some from there? They also have good photographs and info

I think if you register at gap online, they give you an introductory discount

NAP has expensive delivery, but I think returns are free and they come to your door to pick up, so it's less of a hassle than going to the post office
