Cape/Cloak is this madness?

Hello,

first post in style and beauty.

I am needing a new winter coat and I am anticipating spending a lot of time walking around London this winter with DS in a sling or pram.

I was thinking about a knee length wool coat that I could put him underneath. Tried on some duffel coats, but to fit him in I have to get such a huge size I am drowning and will look absurd when he is in the pram!

So I thought that a cape or cloak might be the answer especially if there was one with arms. But I cannot find any sensible websites with capes/cloaks. They all seem aimed at people who think they are living in medieval times.

Is this madness? Am I going to look like Cathy searching for Heathcliffe or a Catherine Cookson heroine?

Can anyone help? Or offer suggestions of a type of coat that might be suitable?

I am very excited to answer this because although not a style guru I had three children under 4 years old and had to use London public transport so I do know loads about wearing a coat while child in sling and pushing double buggy.
My solution was to get a size 22 wrap cardigan even though I am a size 10. This sort of style www.marksandspencer.com/Open-Front-Ruched-Oblong-Cardigan/dp/B0042MCH0S?ie=UTF8&ref=sr_1_117&sr=1-117&qid=
If I had the money I might get a DKNY Cozy.
I would toss the long ends over my shoulders and they stay there while pushing a pram because your hands are up. If it was really cold I would ear a fleece underneath cardigan but not done up. This solution works well because when you progress from a front sling to a back one (I can recommend Ergo) you can still wear the cardigan with the baby because it is so slouchy.
Now it worked for me but as I am lurking here because I am a bit clueless about style and beauty I could be talking out of my arse.
Good luck !x

I wore ds outside my coat tbh. He was always pretty cozy.

But if you fancy a cape, try ASOS.

Thanks for the replies and words of wisdom about slings.

I like the look of some of the asus capes, might have to try one and see.

It sounds like a good solution, though perhaps not a very warm one-although having teh bubba in teh sling will be little a little hot water bottle, I suppose. Zara have some great capes here

My boss wears capes and swears they are the warmest things going. She makes them herself from good wool fabric with a silk lining.

The zara ones look good too, but I am a bit worried they will all be too short. I am 5'9" and hate getting wet bum/thighs in the rain.

Sorry to be so picky.

I love the idea of making one, but that might be a step too far this winter.

Looks like a trip to Zara might be in order to try some on.

Thank you.
