What can I use to strip the dye out of my hair?

Without damaging it too much? I have had a series of hair disasters amd in a fit of madness dyed my hair really dark, which does not suit me at all. I wondered what I should use to take the colour out and then use a semi permanant to go more natural again?

In future I will be stepping away from the home colourants!

TIA

head and shoulders shampoo, its good at making the colour fade. when i had my last hair crisis, 4 washes with h&s really helped strip the dark patches out.

Don't be tempted to use the colour stripping stuff you can buy. it will go orange and take 2 years to grow out.

Oh gosh, should I just go to the hairdressers? I can't really afford it this close to Christmas. Boo. I'm such an idiot, I used to do stuff like this as a teenager and it always went wrong. Without fail. I need to go at least several shades lighter.

My poor hair. It was lovely. I miss it.

See I'd whack on a pre-lightener/colour-stripper (and yes it will go orangey) and then use an ash blonde dye to take away the orangeness. It worked for me.

dd used colour B4 after her hair colouring disaster on recomendations from here and it worked brilliantly. Smelt foul though.

A woman I used to work with swore by using washing up liquid to get the old colour out of her hair before dyeing it. It seemed to work for her.

Another one to recommend Head and Shoulders the normal one - I was advised to use it by my hairdresser and it does work!

washing up liquid works a treat. give it afew washes. Then get a good leave in conditioner, use that, wrap a hot towel around your head to let the conditioner really penetrate your hair.

I would NOT do a home dye after that. It doesnt matter what colour use use, home dyes will always go "brassy" or orange. The pigment is weak and a cheap composite. I would forfeit something for Christmas and go to a good salon for some advice.
