Ugg boots: yes or no in 2010?

I know they've been around for years and I've had two pairs of imitation ones that were okay. Would I be very out of style to finally get round to buying a genuine pair? I'm going to New York soon and I think I might need them to keep my toes cosy. But, I'm reluctant to spend £200 if there's a better alternative.

Yeh, why not? I got the tall Bailey triple button style this year, as they are the latest ones and a bit less popular.

FrameyMcFrame · 08/11/2010 16:51

I bought a new pair this year, don't really care if they're out of fashion now as nothing else is so cosy and warm :)

Rannaldini · 08/11/2010 20:29

no no no

NinkyNonker · 08/11/2010 20:31

They're really cosy, I love mine for dog walking, beaches mid-winter etc etc. Not sure if they're 'trendy', but who cares!

mamalovesmojitos · 08/11/2010 20:32

yes, always, who cares if they are not fashionable, they are so warm and cosy and lovely Smile

TattyDevine · 08/11/2010 20:38

I love my Plumdale ones for really cold days. Dont really care if they are still fashionable or not - I tend to wear them on more dressed down laid back days anyway, where comfort, warmth etc are higher on my list of priorities. Having said that I do think they look fairly nice even if its just in a "ooh, I bet they are nice and warm and comfy" kind of way.

(Actually its the very young people that tend to eye them up - 17 year olds and such in Starbucks were cooing over them when I had them on the other day)

I would say if in NYC definitely get some - they are lovely.

weepootle · 08/11/2010 20:39

I'd definitely get some in New York- you'll save a fortune.

I think Uggs have just become a staple rather than a 'current fashion' although down at Bicester at the weekend all the trendy young things were wearing them.

I have some classic shorts and classic talls, the new Kensington ones are nice.

Alouiseg · 08/11/2010 20:40

Yes, yes and yes. The Kensingtons are $200 as opposed to £250 here!!

CitrusZest · 08/11/2010 20:42

Does anyone know when I can reliably get a pair in NY? We're only going for two days and I'd rather not spend time searching for something I could get here. I could wear my Costco ones there and ditch them in the hotel when I find a proper pair!

Bloomingdales.

CitrusZest · 08/11/2010 20:47

Question number 2: Are the tall variety knee-high or more mid-calf?

OP posts:
weepootle · 08/11/2010 20:52

mid-calf, a really nice length actually.

deepbluewave · 09/11/2010 12:27

OH my god. YES..and who cares- bought my second pair 4 days ago after wearing my others out. Never out of them and they have made them more structured, so they do actually look a little smarter.

Yeh, I agree, mid calf are nice.

I went to NY last year with the intention of buying some new (cheap) Uggs - I had great trouble trying to find a shop that sold them tbh.

bigTillyMint · 09/11/2010 13:03

euph do they keep their shape better than Uggs? And are they more waterproof?

franke · 09/11/2010 13:06

What about Ugg Cardy boots? Are they okay?

These are on my list - beautiful Uggs...who'd have thought it! The site also has a store locator btw.

midtowner · 10/11/2010 01:37

There's a brand new Ugg store on 5th Avenue near Central Park (you may have to queue to get in as they seem to limit how many shoppers they allow inside at any one time).

deepbluewave · 10/11/2010 10:12

I think the cardy UGGS are nice, but I imagine them to be less water proof...

RamblingRosa · 10/11/2010 10:23

No on the style front. Yes on the warmth front. I hate them but have finally given in and bought a fake (real sheepskin but not Ugg) pair from T K Maxx for £40. I love them. They're the warmest things ever. Wish I'd bought them years ago.

I have 2 pairs one light tan the other chocolate and I love them! They have lasted so well (1 pair is 4 years old the other 2) and they've still got loads of life left in them. I agree that they've become more of a staple than 'in' item. Get them in NYC and save yourself a few £'s.

I'm off on hols to the states in January and will be buying at least 1 more pair in grey.
