Dear all - help with funeral clothes please :(

I knew this time was coming but could never be fully prepared - my nan, my closest relative and the loveliest amazing woman I have had pleasure to spend time with.

Having been named next of kin, I have an awful lot of arranging to do, and seems like my needs come last - so can some of you help please. You're so good at this.

Right - I'd like either a dress or skirt/jacket for crematorium service. Primarily black but with a splash of colour too - in other words not to look too funerally unless teamed with something brighter.

I'm only 5ft 2 so would have to be from a short range or be to around knee length. I'm also a size 16 so round necks don't look particularly flattering from the norkage point of view. And if it's not too much to ask, shoes?

General high street stores would be fine or online stores. I'm worried about online a bit as I only have just over a week, etc .

Any ideas so very gratefully received.

TIA

Hi Why. So sorry for your loss.
I have seen this on M&S website. Perhaps there is one near you to try on?
M&S have lots of cropped cardigans to throw on.
And I would go for a comfortable shoe.Something like this perhaps?

moragbellingham · 06/11/2010 09:13

Sorry for your lossSad
Monsoon with black jacket (will look later for more)?
The velvet Boden blazer unfortunately is sold out in black in a 16 but maybe something similar.

Thank you ladies for ideas - both very suitable. Love the Monsoon dress as it would suit other purposes too, but unfortunately online seems only available in sizes 8 and 10.

I'm going to take a day out during the week to concentrate on 'me' shopping, and these ideas have helped greatly. Too many party type dresses available now, and this has given me two lovely starting points. Really love the Monsoon dress as it could also be more flattering

Any more ideas would be very welcome.

I'm sorry to hear that your nan has died. I hope the next few days of organising everything isn't too stressful.

I always think black is a very harsh colour and that navy can look elegant and sombre

There's this one too

sorry for your loss.

2 in 1

id go for comfort shoes - maybe a mary jane, as you will be greeting people and might be running around and on your feet a lot

this looks lovely too

M&S shoes

sorry for your loss.

Sorry to hear of your loss.

I wholly recomend tesco for a knee length smart dress. They have a black and a dark grey. I am size 16 and 5'1 and I loved the black so much I bought the grey and am dithering over the red. Am too inept to link I'm afraid. Price £22 but there's a 20% code around and they deliver really quickly.

I'm a very curvy shape with large norks and tis amazingly flattering. I don't think it's very generously cut though so you might need to size up.

TheGruffaloMami - I was looking forward to viewing that. Sounded very promising. I've cut and pasted the link and it appears to be out of date. Thank you very much for trying though x
