I have had it lurking for over 2-3 weeks and bought it at John Lewis- so need to keep or take back.

I just need a simple not-too-posh dress for casual dinners out etc, or even daytime. Not for work or anything.

I quite like it, but the front pleat does give a maternity feel to it. Otherwise it is a good fit- I got the XS as am a 8-10 and petite.

I like one of their other dresses better, but it is sleevelss and means I'd have to wear a cardi. ( haven't got very toned arms)

Other than that it was a FINE link Grin

dexter73 · 04/11/2010 18:38

What about this one?

purplepeony · 04/11/2010 18:42

Hmmm- that is very nice dexter. I can see postman is going to be busy.

I already have 2 items from White Co. and 1 kew dress to get back.

I also quite like the Coast JESSICA dress though it has slightly odd gathered shoulders.

I have this dress and I LOVE it!!!

purplepeony · 04/11/2010 18:59

yes that is nice too.
okay - i have ordered the Coast dress in an 8 and a 10 from J Lewis so get free postage and 28 days to decide. Not sure about colour as web can be tricky but we will see- i hope it is darker rather than burgundy colour.

about to order the grey one from Mint velvet- anyone got a code lovely MNs?

Dexter- I have that dress too - it really is lovely.

dexter73 · 04/11/2010 20:02

It doesn't look very exciting in that picture but I walked past it in Debenhams and stopped in my tracks as I instantly loved it. Bit on the pricy side though!

I think this Kew dress is nicer

DamselInDisgrace · 04/11/2010 20:10

I tried that on yesterday. It was more than a little maternity, unfortunately.

I bought the short-sleeved, elderflower print one instead. Much more flattering. I got a cardigan to go with it, as my arms are not as toned as I'd like.

mutable · 04/11/2010 20:17

blast- it looks nice on the website...

which cardi?

purplepeony · 04/11/2010 20:24

It's a shame that it's so hard to get the right dress in the right colour!

I am fair - very fair skinned- and dark colours make me look old and tired. can't do black, and only charcoal if it is not too near to face.

I love lots of the jersey dresses at the White Company but 99% are black or navy. I sent for 1 which isn't but he viscose is cheap looking nad it's going back.

PP - this bertha dress is very nice - I ordered it in the blue which is a lovely inky deep blue and the fabric is gorgeous - very fine jersey in two layers. Like you I am petite (8) and I thought the neckline was very flattering - not maternity at all - but I am only 5 3 and thought it was just a bit too long. If you are taller I think it is perfect.

I have just posted a selection of links to long sleeved blue jersey dresses on the Wise & Avid thread - would you mind linking to the white Co dress you thought was yucky viscose as was considering ordering a few from them to try.

Like you I am keen to avoid the dreaded black.

I am also considering this one in the purple.

HTH.

esher mummy Do you really live in esher? I sued to live in Claygate!)

I have a variation of the Phase 8 dress which I have not worn yet- bought in summer-identical neckline, but elbow length sleeves, less material in the skirt and just on th e knee- pale grey.
i am same height as you.

The WC dress is the gathered shoulder dress in OTTER. the fabric looks cheap- it's thin viscose has an odd texture- almost nylon-y.

DEXTER- if you are reading tell me a bit more about that dresss- the purple coast one you have.
is it small or large fitting? would I need an 8 or a 10?
Is the fabric thin or stretchy or what?

OP posts:
higgle · 05/11/2010 09:58

This one is nice too, it has long sleeves
