"but we can't have people trying to murder our elected officials so have to give them maximum sentences"

Surely we can't have people trying to murder anyone can we?

vintage4... what was it you wanted to know about tights?

Cicatrice · 04/11/2010 13:42

I said what without knowing the circumstances of the case?

thumbwheel · 04/11/2010 13:45

Oh, is Gabbyloggon related to the judge in Manchester who allowed 3 thugs to escape a custodial sentence after bashing a 17yo boy with ASD?

MaMoTTaT · 04/11/2010 13:49

ok I'm trying to take this thread seriously - I really am, and fwiw I don't think her sentence was harsh at all for the reasons laid out above.

but OMG Dexter your comment was just fantastic Grin

Ah, I get it now. GabbyLoggon is a semi-regular nutter poster who likes to be controversial and patently knows jack shit about English law.

There is a vast difference between attempted murder and manslaughter. Vis, if I were to kill a man unintentionally but I should have not being doing that which caused him to die, then I will be found guilty of manslaughter.

If I go home to my DH after buying two large knives and spending several days thinking about the best way to kill him and get away with it, I'm pretty sure I deserve a longer sentence.

Also there is a breach of trust - it's like stabbing nurses - stabbing anyone is wrong, but stabbing someone who is there to help others is just worse somehow.

I think until she faces up to her crime she should be left in prison. She attempted to kill someone. How is she in any way better than a soldier in Iraq, even in her own eyes?

Lulumaam · 04/11/2010 14:22

gabby... what do you know about comparative sentences?

she had malice aforethought. she wasnte dto kill him. she took a knife and thought about what she was going to do

frankly, she should be in for life. i.e unitl she's dead

no remorse, nothing. cold blooded attempted murder to make a political statement

do you think community service would have been better > Hmm

scurryfunge · 04/11/2010 14:23

Why do you think it is harsh,OP?
