I have had my eyebrows shaped today, its my first step on sorting out my neglected face!

My vig issue is my nose, i have giant pores and it is constantly so red and sore, i was going to start some sort of clensing routine. Can anyone reccomend any reasonably priced skin care products and tell me what your routine is? Thanks.

The Boots Protect and Perfect range is good and mid-price. I use Oil of Olay cleanser/toner/eye makeup remover (cheap!) and use the P&P serum and face creams - day one and night one. I think it is v important to use a face cream with SPF in it - will do more than anything to keep you looking younger

I cleanse with oil (a mix of castor and olive or almond) and a hot flannel ? really massage the oil in. Will not make your skin greasy but evens out skin tone and generally is deep cleansing. Super cheap and basically is what those balm cleansers are (except not 40 quid)

In the day I use Embryolisse (from French chemists) and on sunny days I?ll use the L?Oreal factor 50 tinted sunblock as well.

At night I use an anti-ageing serum (say Prevage or the Boots one ? whatever?s to hand) and rosehip oil or rosa mosqueta

I have heard good things about Avon Anew, and the 20 quid Olay regenerist is supposed to be the dog?s nads.

You might ike to treat yourself to a facial to see what that does. Or do you need see your GP? red and sore skin is not normal and you could need antibiotics.

All cleansers work- Boots own start at around £1 and they are all pretty much the same whether you pay £1 or £40.

I use a L'oreal one for mature skin, which is £3.99 but then I spend £35 on a Clinique mosituriser.

If you can splash out, Clinique is good and won't irritate if you are having problems. Why not go along for a consultation?

I have a facial booked in for next week so i might way to see what they say.

My nose has always been the same so i dont think its a medical thing, i am getting sick of people asking me if im sunburn or a heavy drinker or crying or have a cold ect ect...

It is brigt red and shiney on the tip of my nose and round the edges is really dry and sore, i get these fluid filled blistery type things on it every few days which make it sore.

I really love the Liz Earle cleanser. It isn't the cheapest but it isn't expensive either. I always thought a toner was a waste of space but hers is the only one I think is worth it. It is all made with natural products and smells divine. I am not someone who normally bothers but I really enjoy using these two products.
You can check her out on her website but might be a bit pricey for what you're looking for.

Titsalina - a dermatologist may be a better idea if you have a chronic skin problem. They are not cheap but could save you loads of money by telling you what to use/avoid. Just a thought.

Ok thanks for the tip, is that something my doctor could refer me to or is it something that has to be private?

I think it sounds like roscea or possibly some kind of acne- you def, need to see a dermo.

purplepeony · 03/11/2010 17:41

www.rosacea.org/index.php

worth a read- sounds very much like what you describe.

LelloLorry · 03/11/2010 17:45

I generally hate faffing around with 50 different products, so for me I love the Olay 7 in 1 Total effects, it does pretty much everything with minimum fuss.

If you don't mind a bit of faff though I'm sure single products would be a bit more effective when in need of special attention iykwim.

HerHonesty · 03/11/2010 17:46

expensive but very good - eve lom. that said the products last a long long time

Lotster · 03/11/2010 17:46

If you get sore skin I wouldn't recommend Protect and Perfect. I brings me out in spots quite often, and red patches if I cleanse to vigorously beforehand.

I can really, really recommend ESPA products for when your skin feels like a mess. They're really natural and smell gorgeous.

Get one of their facials and then buy the recommended products. You can find Espa beauticians at lots of gyms like Esporta, and their facials are lovely. They often do deals with £ off products when you get a facial. You can also buy the stuff cheaper at online chemists anyway.

I have added some pictures of my poor nose to my profile if anyone has any ideas. I will go to the GP first to rule out any infections or anything and ask to be reffered to a dermotologist.

It looks poss like rosacea, but you do need to see your doc to confirm. My husband had mild rosacea on his cheeks and it cleared up after a course of antibiotics. Some things can make it worse, including (if I can remember what DH was told to avoid) coffee, spicy food and alcohol.

If you have any broken vein lurking and contributing to the redness, they can be removed. Google thread vein removal - please be sure you only have treatment by someone properly qualified. Have you tried using a green-tinted cream or powder? This can help tone-down the redness.
