I brought them a few weeks ago they are tagged and unworn. Went into Sainburys today and they have 25% off so a good saving.

if you have a reciept you may be able to get your money back. if you don't they will only offer you the sale price refund afaik.

SecretNutellaFix · 03/11/2010 12:03

You can try to return them. The store are within their rights to refuse a refund. The store are also within their own rights not to sell tham back to you, especially if they think that that is what you want to do.

ruddynorah · 03/11/2010 12:05

they don't have to accept them back unless they're faulty. but i imagine sainsburys do have a goodwill refund policy as long as the item is in a resaleable condition. do you still have your receipt? if not you'll probably only get the current selling price back for them, as you can't prove you paid more for them.

notinmypocket · 03/11/2010 12:40

Surely you're not allowed to return an item, get the refund and then buy it again for the sale price?
If I'm missing a trick here, please let me know. I thought there would not be a chance in hell to pull this off

bigTillyMint · 03/11/2010 12:42

notinmypocket, of course you can Wink

StealthPolarBear · 03/11/2010 12:44

but of course it would have to be unworn

WowOoo · 03/11/2010 12:44

I have done this.
And gone back to same cashier with reduced item. Said I'd changed mind as they were cheaper. They didn't bat an eyelid when I did it.

notinmypocket · 03/11/2010 12:46

tilly
Wow - I'm impressed by the S&B style ladies craftiness and resourcefulness!

Unfortunately I'm too much of a chicken to even attempt this

tefal · 03/11/2010 12:48

Yes but you will need your receipt to get the full refund.

LadyViper · 03/11/2010 12:52

i'd get a friend to rebuy them, some cashiers can be funny about it. When I worked in a clothes shop we absolutely didn't allow it, but i suppose in sainsburys you can go to a different cashier.

DomesticGoddessInTraining · 03/11/2010 12:57

When I worked in retail we'd get people bring back full price goods and expect me to re-sell the exact item (instead of going and picking another one from the floor) at the cheaper price. IIRC you can refuse to do that though (i.e. if the item hasn't actually been put out for sale yet), so make sure your size is available on the shop floor first!

DomesticGoddessInTraining · 03/11/2010 12:59

The shop floor that is, we didn't have stock all over the floor (except on boxing day maybe). Blush

allthreerolledintoone · 03/11/2010 13:02

Ah ive never done it before but as i still have the reciept and the item is unworn i didn't see why i couldn't.

Since when did it become a goodwill gesture to give a refund for the unworn goods, provided they are returned within 28 days and the customer has a receipt? OP, of course you can return your boots and get a refund, then buy them again if you want to.

DomesticGoddessInTraining · 03/11/2010 13:28

There is no legal right for a refund on items purchased in a store unless they are faulty.

SecretNutellaFix · 03/11/2010 13:30

The only right of return for the customer is if the product purchased is actually faulty.

Apart from that, if a shop wanted to say tough shit, they could. Most wouldn't, but legally they can.

soccerwidow · 03/11/2010 13:43

My SIL does this ALL the time!

She buys the sale item, then takes back the first item. Most high street stores allow you 28 days to return items.

Gap until last year, used to automatically refund the difference if an item was reduced within 2 weeks of purchase.

By law however, stores only have to take back faulty goods. If you change your mind about an item they DO NOT have to take it back.

virgo1979 · 03/11/2010 14:02

I have done this several times, but I would check they have your size first and buy that first, then go to customer services to return original pair, just say you changed your mind. as long as its within their 28 day policy or whatever, and you have original receipt.

TheNextMrsDepp · 03/11/2010 17:39

I have done this many times. I bought several things in the Next sale that I already had (and had worn), then returned the replacement items using the original receipts. Of course you have to be within the store's latest reurn date (28 days for most); if they don't accept returns unless faulty then this won't work.

I spent £750 on a bathroom unit a couple of weeks ago, then DH came home with a 20% off voucher. Ordered it again, returned the original one, £150 thank you very much!

NinkyNonker · 03/11/2010 19:04

Easy, take them back to customer services with the receipt, then buy again at a different till. Presuming they have your size, you couldn't really ask for the pair from behind customer services!

Some credit cards offer a service where they refund the difference if price goes down.

owlicecream · 03/11/2010 20:20

Threads like this make me wish I lived in the States. They commonly offer a "price adjustment" so if the item goes on sale within a certain period you can pitch up with your receipt (no need to bring the item) and they will refund the difference

I do this all the time.

At CHristmas, I always keep receipts of gifts I buy in case they get reduced on Boxing Day.

One year, we bought OH's Mum a handbag for £60 in Debenhams. It was reduced on Boxing Day, so I bought another one and took it back using the original full price receipt.

The recepiant is none the wiser.
