Quality grainy leather bags and purses?

I need both!

Seems like the holy grail though. I like Mulberry quality, but not the branding or price.

Plus probably looking for soemthing more simple.

Someone posted a link to some Scaramanga satchel bags which I am tempted by, but they are a little bit utilitarian. And I need a purse too!

Any ideas?

Have you looked at Radley? Much less expensive than Mulberry. You can always take the little dog tags off if you don't like obvious branding. John Lewis stock them.

I have one of these - the 'lenasia' and it is made from soft, squidgy, textured leather with decent zips and buckles and fab pink lining. I have it in black and love it. It has been much admired.... might be worth a look as they do purses as well? Marmara bag looks nice...

Another vote for Radley - I have a lovely soft grainy dark brown bag bought 2 years ago, used every day since and still looking lovely despite minimal care from me. The leather seems to be good quality and all zips/stitching etc still perfect.
Mine is a little like [[http://www.johnlewis.com/139411/Style.aspx
this one]]

I have to admit...I'm not a Radley fan.

Although I do currently own both a Radley bag and a purse :-S

The purse is broken (zip) and the bag is a tan across body bag, which is waaaay too small for my needs.

I want something where the leather is more rough and ready. Radley are more buttery soft.

J&M Davidson
Mimi Berry
Plumo

I think Mulberry is alright (but overpriced) and I wouldn't buy one because every unstylish tom dick and harry seems to have one.

You can pick up the vintage croc Mulberry bags on eBay for 100-150. Much more stylish than the current crop with their nasty hardware. Very long lasting as well.

I just bought a bag from here, its gorgeous, fab quality leather and good service.

Osprey?

try a few boutiquey places, Whistles used to make quite nice bags, I got a great one (cheap on ebay) by Robert Clergerie. Have a look in Liberty's or Fenwicks as they have lesser known designers.

Tanner Krolle? (think they are pricey these days)

If nice thick but soft leather is what you want I think Mimi Berry is your boy
