how do I keep wavy hair curly? Help please.

I have very fine brown wavy hair, which could be thicker. I like to wear it curly. It is cut in a one length chin length bob. I use a foam styling product and a maximum hold hair spray. If I use enough hair spray after curling with a hot hair tong, it stays well enough, but is really stiff and can look dusty. What would make the curls last longer? Any ideas very welcome.

The Curly Girl Method (book by Lorraine Massey) www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/blogs/sfmoms/detail?entry_id=37131 might work for you. Sometimes hair that you think is wavy turns out to be naturally curly when you stop using shampoo and styling it.

Hi BaggyAgy

I've got wavy hair too and what helps for me is this:

I wash my hair once and use loads of conditioner, leaving a litte in at the end. My hair is quite thick so if yours is a little finer you might not want to leave any conditioner in. Then I blot it dry instead of rubbing with a towel (boring but does make a difference) Comb with a wide toothed comb and add a bit more styling lotion like Aveda's Be Curly at the ends. Then I use a diffuser dryer but don't fiddle with my hair as I'm drying it which seems to create extra frizz.

I sometimes use heated rollers too - instead of hot tongs. It seems to make the curls last longer. Good luck!

Layers, layers and more layers. I have given up fighting my wave and got my hairdresser to put in loads of layers to bring out the curl naturally. I even get real actual ringlets if I go to bed with it slighlty damp.

I dye my hair with Recital and make the superconditioner that comes with that last. I also run Tresemme smoothing creme serum through the ends so there is curl and shine.

Agree layers really help, but I've just discovered that the Trevor Sorbie curl cream is amazing for making my (unruly wavy messy) hair look quite nice :)

Maybe you lovely ladies may be able to advise!
My DD is 2.5 years and has curly/frizzy hair and I have no idea what to do with it.
I use friz ease shampoo and conditioner and hair serum which seems to help but whenever I brish her hair its just all a big friz ball at the end.
How do I tame her beauticul locks?
Her hair is also long past her elbows.

I second curly girl. It has transformed my hair. Also a wonderful haircut from Glass salon (Fernando understands curly wavy textured hair) which is silghtly shorter at the back layered up the head to give shape, longer at the sides where it's really curly (sounds weird but is fab) works with the curl (half corkscrew, half wavy)

I also usually only wash my daughter's hair in non paraben/dimethicone conditioner.

I think curly girl (with maybe the odd non sulfate wash given kids do actually get dirty heads!) would work really really well with fine, easily mattable kids' curls.

Misskaur forget about brushing your DD's curly hair. Use the Curly Girl no shampoo approach, as curly hair needs moisture, not harsh detergents, and will be left clean and fresh and moisturised by conditioner. Don't try taming it let it be itself. With the no-shampoo method it will settle down, the frizz will disappear, and you'll be left with curls.

DD3's hair is like this now only red, and she hasn't used shampoo for about 7 years, just conditioner and a scrunching with diluted gel, and no brushing except with a wide tooth comb in the shower. Before I started using just conditioner, she looked more like this.

Silkstalkings · 02/11/2010 14:49

MissKaur has she ever had her hair cut? It might be just the baby hair that's so frizzy and chopping it to shoulder length might make a big difference.

misskaur08 · 04/11/2010 12:33

No shampoo? That's a very new concept to me. Will give it a go as tend to wash her hair every other day which I guess is a big no no for curly hair Blush Will also stop brushing and get hold of wide tooth brush.
Thank you mathanxiety
Silkstalkings, no have not cut her hair yet, it maybe that a trim is order.

Thank you ladies!
