There's no denying it, I've let myself go.

2 DS (4.5 and 20 months) run me ragged and I was caught by surprise when I saw myself in the mirror yesterday and saw how haggard I looked.

I am about 2 stone overweight, live on tea and biscuits and don't really make much effort with my appearance.

I always feel tired and worn out. I ache all over - my shoulders and upper back is fucked from carrying a toddler around.

However, I've decided to get a grip and sort myself out. Call in New-vember (do you see what I've done there Grin).

I'm not that bothered about the weightloss at the moment, just want to feel more energised and look like I've made a bit more of an effort.

So, starting tomorrow, I am going to:-

  • eat porridge for breakfast (instead of skipping breakfast and eating kids' malted milk biscuits all morning)
  • get a haircut and colour (never coloured my hair before but the grey is definitely getting worse!)
  • find a pilates class.

What do you do everyday to make yourself feel better?

I've just had an innocent veg pot for lunch (they are 2 for 1 at Sainsbury's at the moment).

Too expensive to buy everyday but I think I might get myself some in for this week, just to give me a bit of a kick up the backside.

I've had my five a day already and it's only 2pm.

Can I ask a hydration question? I've really cut down on my tea today and have been drinking chamomile, water instead. But I am incredibly thirsty, far more than usual.

Is this normal?

I run, not everyday but 4 times a week. Exercise is brill, great for your mental health and confidence. I run in the South Downs, you get fresh air, great views, solitude, it's fab.

Couch 2 5K is a great way to start running. It's a podcast which starts with run/walk and builds over 12 weeks to running 5K.

Also I wear just a little make up each day. Foundation, blusher, mascara, sometimes eyeshadow. Look and feels o much better and only takes 5 minutes.

WowOoo · 01/11/2010 14:48

Buy some new clothes?

Always cheers me up. A friend went with me recently and begged me to try things I wouldn't normally choose. Have to say I quite like having some new styles. Failing that, a style advisor in a shop could help you choose some things you probably wouldn't think suited you.

Second getting hair done and nice nails.

Good food and fresh air too.

I recently stopped eating so many biscuits, crisps and cakes (am sure onset of winter and cold weather does it) and already after 1 week I feel better, honestly.

You sound chirpier already. Good for you!

vintage4 · 01/11/2010 14:49

i have lost 5 stone so feel really good.Enjoy going to the gym and my Davina mccoll at home exercises. I think my neck has aged a lot since losing weight and hair has suffered and had to be cut but heigh ho.Nothing beats the thrill of putong on my size 10 skirts etc when i was a 20 this time last year

fruitstick · 01/11/2010 14:53

Pilates is brilliant. Find good, specialist instructor and consider having a 1:1 session first so you're doing it really properly.

Physio appt for your back?

FolornHope · 01/11/2010 15:01

vintage hoe did yoou put ON all that weight? what is the differnece food intake wise

MarshaBrady · 01/11/2010 15:06

Cripes that's good vintage well done.

Bet you enjoyed getting rid of all those old clothes.

Heartsease · 01/11/2010 15:07

Pilates is good, and so are vegetables.

For me, anything which gets your mind and body in the same place is good. I have lately got into yoga, which I never thought I would, as I have a fear of mumbo jumbo (not so much a catsbum type fear but a skin-crawling, get-the-giggles type thing). But by chance I found a teacher I liked and the other day had the revelation that, for a few seconds, I had been thinking about nothing. Bliss.

vintage4 · 01/11/2010 15:11

it crept on over the years. I am 47 with 2 teenage ds and it was down to pure and utter greed a lot of the time.I do not eat anything at all thats bad for me now crisps, cakes etc and i can HONESTLY say i don`t miss them thanks to my Paul Mckenna cd at the beginning then going to the gym etc .lots of scrummy healthy things around

AliceandtheGinormousBaps · 01/11/2010 16:03

If you have your ears pierced then put earrings in.

I never wear earrings as i always forget, but after having dc2 i feel so frumpy and have no time to do anything about it. I got some stud earrings for my birthday recently and have started wearing them most days as they are sparkly and make me feel a bit more glamorous. Instead of thinking "ugh" when i see myself in the mirror, i think "ooh, look at my pretty sparkly earrings" Grin

MrsVincentPrice · 01/11/2010 16:26

I put Radio 3 in the morning while the DCs are eating breakfast. It is the ultimate Domestic Goddes illusion - if a nice BBC man is playing you manageable chunks of Telemann while you butter their toast then all must be fundamentally well (I also think it improves their mood).
Also try to get as much sunshine at lunchtime as possible at this time of year.

fruitstick · 01/11/2010 16:31

Ooh mrsvp, I tend to shout at John Humphries.

I'm not sure I'm ready to give that up Grin

BonzoDooDah · 01/11/2010 16:49

Sod the pilates and go to ZUMBA. It is really good fun and the endorphin high afterwards can't be beaten Grin

Heartsease · 01/11/2010 16:55

Oh goodness, YES to Zumba. Everything Bonzo says is true. I loved it, but my amazing teacher has disappeared.
