Anyone use Burt's Bee's??

I have very dry (eczema) and sensitive skin. Most bubble bath & body lotions make my skin worse and even vaseline on my lips doesn't seem to work but makes them itch alot Hmm. It gets so bad I end up having to put steroid cream on them (I know I shouldn't).
So can anyone recommend Burt's Bee's? And what should I try?

People I know recommend their products. But I'm like you, not quite sure what to buy - so can't help but will watch with interest.

I love Burt's Bees stuff, but I don't have eczema so I'm not sure that's helpful to you. I used to get psoriasis on my scalp and still get itchiness if I use regular shampoo but am always fine with BB.

You could also try Aveeno bath oil and lip stuff. Aveeno bath oil and cream are great for DS's eczema. Waitrose baby bottom butter is also very gentle on the skin.

I don't have eczema but I use and love weleda and lavera products and they have less nasties than burts bees

SillyTart · 30/10/2010 09:33

I have got the Aveeno hand cream & body lotion. The hand cream was great at first and now it doesn't seem to do anything, I am just so tired of wasting money on stuff that reacts with my skin Sad, my sister doesn't have the same problem as me so she does very well with all the stuff I give her!!

Bump for anyone else that uses it??

Burt's Bees was sold a few years ago, apparently, and their products were reformulated. (Or so I heard, from someone who has eczema, and can't deal with the amount of perfume now in them.)

soppypreggyloon · 30/10/2010 10:31

i love it! no eczema here tho but getting dry pregnant skin again.
their belly butter was lovely on my bump with ds.
i do know my skin gets v dry when i use stuff with SLS in. i use naked hair products and try to find SLS free shower gels etc.

i might go treat myself :)

I have used it myself, but my friend swears by it for her dry skin.

If you want to buy some though, check out Amazon. I almost paid £20 for a set in the garden centre and when I came home and googled, found the same set on amazon for £10! I bought a book instead in the end, but still, it's a good saving! Grin

MrsMeow · 30/10/2010 12:45

I haven't used it, that should say...

APixieInMyTea · 30/10/2010 13:15

I use burts bee's for myself with terribly dry skin. It's lovely and really helps.

I use the baby bee's for my toddler too which is really good and milder than the adults version so you could try that?

If you like bubble baths then Halos and Horns is great, very gentle on DS's skin. This stuff is fabulous as a shower gel or hand wash and really softens the skin, it can also be used as a shampoo.

SLSs are degreasers, usually called Sodium Lauryl Sulfate or Sodium Laureth Sulfate. They are in most commercial shampoos and shower gels. They irritate my skin and dry it out and they trigger DS's eczema. You need to read the ingredients before you buy shampoo or shower gel to check.

Aveeno cream from their dry skin range is better IMO than their hand cream or body lotion. Places like Boots usually stock it.

I like Burt's Bees shampoo, radiance day cream and I love the pomegranate lip thingy.

If you can get to a Waitrose I really do recommend trying their baby bottom butter, it's cheap and very effective used everywhere, lips, hands or skin. As far as I know the only ingredients are olive oil, vanilla and calmomile so you're unlikely to have a reaction to it.

providentielle · 31/10/2010 00:58

Silly if you need hand cream try weleda skin food, everyone I know who has tried it wouldn't use anything else

I have similar skin problems to you OP and can get so frustrated when my poor skin gets itchy, sore and unsightly Sad The skin around my eyes and lips had been awful the last 2-3 weeks - very red and angry, itchy, flakey, very uncomfortable and very unslightly Sad I too had resorted to using steroid cream on my face...

I recently started using A-Derma Avione Rhealba products and they are great. I bought them in the big Boots in Glasgow - I've searched the Boots website to try and link them but they're not on their website!

I still use simple shower gel to wash my underarms and nether regions and then massage the A-Derma Avione Rhealba Exomega Cleansing Oil all over the rest of my body, even my face, before rinsing well. I then pat dry and use A-Derma Avione Rhealba Epitheliale H.A. on the problem flakey areas, Simple moisturiser on the rest of my face and Aveeno Moisturisng Creamy Oil for the rest of my body. I have to do this every day to keep my skin bearable which is a pain but needs must!

Three areas of my right hand can get unbearbably sore, flakey and at worst have open sores with painful hacks that result in me being unable to bend my fingers Sad The cold weather makes it worse so this is not a good of year for me! My lovely dermatologist told me to apply steroid cream to the affected areas before going to bed and to then wrap little squares of cling film around my finger to prevent the cream from rubbing off in bed. This works a treat and speeds up the repair time massively. I cannot recommend this more :)

This has turned into a bit of an essay Blush My problem skin can get me down so if this helps just one person then that can only be a good thing :)

sillytart · 01/11/2010 20:42

Thank you all, especially for explaining what SLS is Blush
I am going to give all the products a try so wish me luck!!
BistoBear - thank you, it gets me down too and people don't always understand (I have had a good friend say to me that I should just buy a good moisturiser Angry if only it were that simple!! I also have the problem with big cracks in my fingers I have been putting plasters over my steroid cream at night, but you can't always stick it on when the eczema is all around the finger so will be giving the cling film ago!!
