I've been dyeing my hair for many, many years and have never had a problem or adverse reaction.
Until yesterday. Now I inadvertantly have two-tone hair.
I had my hair dyed and cut at a salon I've been to before, but only for a cut. My hair is naturally a nondescript mid- to dark-brown with a leetle beet of grey, a shoulder-length bob, and was dyed a brownish red about three months ago (also at a salon). There was over an inch of roots showing, but the roots weren't so noticeable because the dye was very close to my natural shade.
The stylist and myself chose a nice colour together that was virtually identical to the previous one, and she applied it to the roots first, then later to the whole head. It was after the shampoo and rinse I noticed that the roots seemed orangey and the rest of the hair much darker (the reddish brown I wanted). That was much clearer once the hair was dried, and because I have a bob there is now a distinct orangey two-inch stripe along the top of my head .
The stylist and head stylist tried to redye the roots, but as soon as the dye went on there was a terrible burning on my scalp and we had to wash it off straight away. I've never had that before. They said it was possibly because the last dye application was too fresh and we had to wait for a few days.
So we've made an appointment for tomorrow, the head stylist will be sorting it out personally, the stylist who did it was beside herself, and obviously they didn't charge me for any of it. I'm not faulting their reaction to the whole mess.
But what caused it probably? Did she mix up the dye wrong? Is it some sort of weird reaction my hair has developed after 20 years of chemicals? I'm obviously worried now about a similar thing happening next time in a few months.
Any consolation gratefully received.
