My sister has asked me to buy her a maxi skirt for christmas. She's a large 16, 5'8ish and largest around the tummy, and boobs.

She's notoriously bad at putting outfits together (by her own admission) so I would want to get her a top too so she has a complete look. However, my thought is that a swirly maxi skirt would be a disaster as I can't imagine what top I could get without swamping her in fabric and making her look like she's wearing several tents.

I was thinking straight ish jersey skirt with long not too fluid top? But I just don't know, this is a very different body shape than my own, far from perfect, one!

Any advice or suggestions please, want to get something lovely as she's had a hellish couple of years.

More swishy

She doesn't want a dress ruby although I would find that easier.

Thanks for those FoundWanting some food for thought there. I had been thinking about this sort of thing but have no idea what top would work with it if you are concerned about your tummy.

What a nice sister she has Smile. Is it practical to get her vouchers and organise a shopping trip together? Or maybe vouchers and a personal shopper to help her with putting outfits together? Lots of people swear by having "their colours done" and say it makes getting dressed a lot easier. I don't know how much it costs but might be an idea.

AngryPixie · 29/10/2010 12:11

She'd probably like this too but what the hell do you wear on top????

I think the Toast skirt is only for v slim women tbh. The model looks swamped even. The SimplyBe skirt is ok but it's polyester which can look v cheap.

Ooh a personal shopping session, now that is an inspired idea monkeysmama

You've got to chose it carefully I think but they can be good fun. Are you in London? The thing with getting vouchers too is there is then no embarrassment about paying. She knows she has x to spend before she gets there and it means the shopper has a clear idea of budget.

I have a similar body type to your SIL and something like this would look okay on me with boots - skirts that are made of thinner material or too floaty don't work.

AngryPixie · 29/10/2010 14:54

Thanks jumpyjack that style might really work on her too, what would you wear on top?

Yes MM I'm in London, she's not but comes often to visit, can come just for a day.
