Black/Mixed race mummies help me.....

My DD is mixed race adn has very very dry skin.

I remember her father had a tub of stuff like vaseline but smelt like baby powder that he used on stepsons.

Do you have idea what it is called?

I think it has a pink label....

Don't know what that one is called but in our houshold Palmers coco butter is the thing. And when anyone from DH family go back to carribean we get solid coconut oil. I know what it is like as it is a never ending battle keeping their skin nice and smooth and not scratchy. Good luck

Not sure what that product is but I second the Palmers cocoa butter for very dry skin. For everyday use, The Body Shop cocoa buter body butter or lotion is very good. My white DP can't understand why my skin dries out and why I'm always 'buttering myself'

I'm black, my kids are mixed race and we use Nivea or Astral. hate the smell of cocoa butter.

I don't know the stuff you're describing, but E45 cream is good for dry skin.

I am not black or mixed race but my god son is black. His mother uses Astral, which is brilliant. I now use it.

Is black skin particularly dry then? I didn't know that.

Zombie, it often can be. And as it's darker, the dryness shows more, almost greyish. DD used to refer to her knees as looking like an elephants when they needed creaming.

Another vote for Palmers cocoa butter.

It was probably perfumed petroleum jelly.

One such brand is Soft & Precious. It looks like vaseline with a pink lid, and it says "Baby Powder scent" on its label.

Oh and some ppl swear by Jergens.

my ds has very dry skin at the moment - we've been using shea butter (can find it quite easily on ebay) and it's really made a difference - no baby powder smell though!

When DD was tiny I used wheat-germ oil with some lavender in at bedtime; baby massage 7 straight to sleep.

She now uses aqueous cream - very cheap from Boots as if she or DH use cocoa butter or anything perfumed I come out in a rash

I'm white, but kids are mixed race and we use Palmer's, too. Don't use bubble bath etc, either, just plain water or sometimes some coconut or olive oil in the bath.

We use baby oil on the dc. If skin is extra dry we use aqueous cream or oilatum - ds sometimes gets a bumpy rash so oilatum good for that. But no matter what we use ds knees often look ashen. I think it's cos he's on them all the time skidding on the floor etc!

Not black, but those big tubs of Aqueous cream are very good - very cheap and can be put staight on the skin or dolloped in the bath. Not at all greasy or perfumed.

My kids are asian mixed race and when they aere babies had that really dry inflamed cheek thing in winter.Our paediatrician recommended emulsifying ointment.You can buy large tubs from the chemist.Alternatively Aveeno is brilliant and very soothing.

Try cocoa butter or shea butter. I find it's the best for my three daughters who are mixed Nigerian and white/Iranian. I also write a blog about mixed heritage parenting which you can find a link to in my signature.
