Have Next changed the fit of their jeans?

I bought a pair of Next jeans and one of cord trousers from their website recently - a bit of a gamble buying clothes online before, but I've bought very similar in the past and had them fit ok. I got the same style and size as usual (size 12, petite, bootcut) and they're really quite tight in the thigh/hip area, but the waistband is so big there's a massive clown-like gap at the back, which looks ridiculous, the only alternative is to cinch them in with a belt, which will mean inches of unflattering bunched up fabric around my waist Blush I'm going to return them.

Anyone else noticed a change in sizing? I've got a bit of an hourglass/pear shaped figure but my older Next clothes do fit me, so seems like something changed. I checked and definitely didn't buy maternity trousers by mistake!

So annoying, it's so hard to find well-fitting trousers/jeans at the best of times :(

ooh that makes me feel better! Next trousers are also usually a perfect fit for me too with similar sounding shape but I've got some new cords which are also tight in the thigh but loose at the waist. So maybe they have changed something.

Me too! Was most disheartened after much gym going to find the size 10 petite jeans I ordered online are very snug on the hips / thigh. I am keeping as I think they will give a little and be ok.

Yep....I always wear next jeans but have sent back a khaki pair and a beige pair as they were bootcut but the thighs were too tight and I have skinny legs so they actually made me look too skinny(only in the leg region mind you!!!)Boobs and stomach are another story!!

hmm, well good to know I'm not just imagining it!

Will have to keep the jeans as I've worn them now, but will be sending back the cords and emailing them about it.

I thought bootcut used to mean normal fit down to the knee, then slightly flared - seems like now it means skinny-fit above the knee, which is not so flattering for some of us! No idea what is going on with the enormous waistband though, surely apple-shaped with skinny legs isn't such a common shape for women? Confused I used to love Next for doing such a good petite range (being short is another complicating factor in clothes shopping :() but may have to start looking elsewhere...

Me too, I bought some flared jeans the other day - super tight on the thigh then requires a belt to bring at the waist. Not good.

I've always had this problem with Next jeans.

TheNextMrsDracula · 28/10/2010 17:47

I have this problem with ALL jeans, not just Next. They seem to be made for people who have the same hip and waist measurements. I often sew darts into the waistband in an effort to close the massive gap down the back!

VivaLeBeaver · 28/10/2010 18:57

How do you sew Darts in, this could solve all my problems. Do they look funny?

TheNextMrsDracula · 28/10/2010 22:37

I put two darts in the back, each about half way between the back seam and the side seam. I just pin two little triangles, disappearing to nothing, try the jeans on before sewing by hand or by machine. It's possible to take 1.5 - 2 inches out of the waist.

I find it looks fine, as long as you fit the darts properly; can be a bit lumpy on the waistband with jeans but it's not an area that's on show as such. If you look at a narrow skirt, for example, you'll notice they will often have darts there anyway.

I have darts on loads of stuff at the moment, because I lost some weight and can't bear to stop wearing things!

Thanks, will have to give this a go with some of my more gappy jeans.
