makeup help

It's been years since I bought anything new, currently have very old body shop all in one face ase dry/powder foundation, a clinque blusher, benefit highbeam and some clear mascara. Oh and a Touche Eclat (not really sure what to do with it though, the TE).

Been reading through posts and think I need a bit of a lesson, before I go shopping can anyone help? I find makeup counters really intimidating.

  1. what is a primer? does it really make a difference?
  1. If you use a primer, what order does it all go in?
Moisturiser, primer, foundation, highbeam etc?? How does BFB fit in with all this??
  1. Is Mac strobe cream like highbeam?

It all seems SO complicated! My skin i squite oily, am trying the oil cleansing method but a bit worried so many types of cream will turn me into an oil slick (actuallly, I had oily skin 10 years ago, it's mainly just my nose that's oily now).

Eye shadow - can anyone recomend a natural, gold/shiny one that shines but isn't sparkly? I see a woman on the bus with beautiful eye makeup - looks sort of gold shiny translucent but very natural.... am stumped, all the gold stuff I have found looks sparkly.

primer goes on first i like the mac one personally. i think it makes a difference
i also like eyeshadow primer, urban decay do a good one

when i can be arsed

touche eclat is an illuminator not a concealer so you need to cover any dark circles etc first not for use on spots etc
use a peachy toned concealer to cover and then something yellow based over the top

eyeshadows from mac bobbi brown etc are great
atm urban decay has a fab compact out called naked
get it

go to mac and book a make up application they will spend about an hour on you for 25 redeemable of purchases
they are very good indeed

Moisturiser, then primer, then foundation. Strobe cream can be used like high beam and so applied over foundation or can be applied under foundation to illuminate whole face - although I'd steer clear of nose and forehead, especially if you get shiny anyway as it can make you look v shiny. Also for oily skin I'd go for Strobe Lotion rather than Strobe Cream. Put loose powder over whole face after foundation if you want to avoid shine but don't put it on your cheeks if you want a glow, just put it on T Zone and around eyes.

Try MAC's Vanilla or Naked Pigment powder, for the natural gold sheen. The Naked is more subtle than the Vanilla but go and have a look at both and see what you like.

Primer is like "polyfilla" - fills in the wrinkles before make-up.

Never tried high beam but my SIL swears by it. Puts it on her cheekbones and browbones.
