My makeup bag is empty - help me fill it up again

Oh dear what a sad state of affairs, I have just audited my makeup bag and now I have nothing left in it apart from one bobbi brown lipstick.

I need to hit the shops with a list of must have items but with so much to choose from I know I'd come back with nothing or a load of stuff I'd never use.

Anyone want to help me build it back up again with must have items? I have about 200.00 to spend and would like also a new cleansing routine as well?

Not much to ask I know but would appreciate any help?

What's your must have item, product, make?

I always have beauty flash balm, Laura Mercier tinted moisturiser, vitalumiere
I use a prescriptives magic powder which has been discontinued
Ronaldinhio made me buy an urban decay eyeshadow pallette today
cod once recommended dior show which is fab and I love it

childrenofthecornsilk · 25/10/2010 22:38

cleansing - evelom is the business

BelligerentGhoul · 25/10/2010 23:02

Yes to Urban Decay eye primer potion thingie. In fact, you have reminded me that mine has run out.

BelligerentGhoul · 25/10/2010 23:03

Oh and I see they do a new 'Sin' one now, too.

whatkatydidathome · 25/10/2010 23:10

touche eclait - YSL

Foundation depends hugely on your skin type. I don't get on with chanel vitalumiere at all. It's supposed to be good for dry skin though. I absolutely love Diorskin nude though. It is my holy grail foundation. I have oily skin.

A good primer is really worth it. I love the MAC ones, especially the spf 50 one.

I agree about the Chantecaille mascara, it really is excellent. And anything by By Terry. I love the baume de rose lip balm, and the eye shadows. MAC eyeshadows excellent too.

My favourite blushers are the Benefit ones in boxes. I love Coralista. Prefer them to MAC blushers.

I like to use liquid eyeliner on my top lid ( I use eye shadow applied with a flat brush under my eyes ). I love Le Stylo eyeliner pen by Chantacaille.

MAC lipsticks are my favourite.

If I had £200, I would buy

Diorskin Nude foundation £29
MAC prep and prime spf £20
Benefit blusher £22
MAC lipstick pro longwear £16
MAC eyeshadow pallet £30
Chantecaille Mascara £30
Chantecaille le stylo eyeliner pen £21

Maybe a bronzing powder and/or a setting powder. MAC mineralize skin finish. Depends on your skin type.

I tend to splash out on make up and use a cheaper skin care regime. Although I do really like Keihls and Origins, it's too expensive for me. I'd rather blow my budget on make up. I think you can get away with less expensive skin care, but you get what you pay for with make up. I think the Simple range is okay. And I really like the Good Things range from Boots, which is about £5.00 an item.

Celery · 25/10/2010 23:31

I'd try and squeeze a nice perfume or a some nail varnishes into that budget too.

Rannaldini · 25/10/2010 23:40

waves back belatedly

also mac gel eyeliner

ysl touche eclat can be too pinky and is an illuminator not a concealer
if you can shade 2 is often much better

GetOrfMoiLand · 25/10/2010 23:48

Touche eclat is not a concealer. God knows why people think it is. A very good concealer which I swear by is Touche Velouté by By Terry - it is the only under eye colcealer that works (I have inheritied purple under eye shadows).

Foundation - Photpgraphic Luminescence by Lancome or Eclat Opluent by By Terry.

Avoid Benefit stuff - imo it is naff crap.

Best kohl eyeliner Estee Lauder Double Wear. A lovely non-draggy soft and waxy texture.

Urban Decay eyeshadows are my faves - get a palette of. Or Lancome. Really good lasting colours.

Just any old black Mascara, No & or something, in my opinion it is not worth forking oiut a fortune on mascara.

Liquid eyeliner - Bourjois Clubbing or No 7 in the little ink pot.

Blusher - a good non shimmery bronzer (Estee Lauder or Clinique) and a rosy cream blush (Tesco Make Up is the best I have tried)

I don't wear lipstick, just have a vaeriety of Juicy Tubes.

Ooh, forgot, Primer - the Loreal Professionals one in a little glass pot. Really makes a staggering difference to your skind appearance.

GetOrfMoiLand · 25/10/2010 23:49

Skincare - very basic for me, so not an inspiration, I just wash my face with soap, apply Waitrose Baby Bottom butter lightly, and SPF 50 every day.

BelligerentGhoul · 26/10/2010 12:36

No 7 mascaras v v bad ime. I prefer Clinique or Max Factor. Bought myself a Lancome one yesterday but haven't tried it yet.

Stylelostinlabour · 26/10/2010 13:03

Not a troll just seriously not been looking after myself enough (3 kids, work, life etc) and have managed to run out, don't like anymore or dried up!

I'm hitting either Chester or Manchester next week to do some serious make up shopping only and then the week after some serious clothes shopping as have just audited warbrobe and if you think makeup bag is bad I'd be kicked off style and beauty if I posted what isnt in it!

I never spend money on mascara, I hate that false lash effect crap, think it makes people look like a cheaper version of Cher from X Factor.

I just want something which colours in my eyelashes, not thicken them.

BelligerentGhoul · 26/10/2010 16:47

Me too Getorf. Clinique used to make one called something like 'long and pretty' which just gave you your own eyelashes but more noticeable. I haven't seen it for a long time though.

I refuse to buy mascara from any shop assistant who looks like she has spiders on her eyes - which emans that a lot of the time, I end up not buying mascara!

Unfortunately I have then picked up a No 7 one, as I don't have to talk to anybody - but the last one I bought from them was appalling AND seemed to be fish-scented. It was truly the worst item of make up I have ever bought - and I used to buy all sorts of cheap goth rubbish from markets as a teenager!

whatkatydidathome · 26/10/2010 16:53

..Touche eclat is not a concealer. God knows why people think it is...

has anyone said that it is? I find it great for making the dark circles under my eyes less pronounced - not because it covers anythgn up but because it simply makes the under eye area look brighter and so not dark. I think of concealers as covering somethign up and I've never been much good at applying them :( but I find that even I can apply touche eclat without making a hash of it as it is dead easy and just makes bits of you look brighter. No harm in popping into JL or Boots and asking someone to stick some on you and having a look is there :)

takingchances · 26/10/2010 21:50

If you want your lashes to look darker without looking thicker, then just get them tinted and use curlers. Easy!
