Foundation and moisturiser for dry and red ?

This cold weather has really taken its toll on my skin and I now have permanently red cheeks.

I wondered if you have any recommendations for 1. a new moisturiser as mine is obviously not up to the job
2.A new foundation with a bit more coverage but still gives a dewy finish

and should I be using a primer / concealer ?

Have dry but usually well behaved 45 yr old ivory skin ;)

Hi There, I used to have terrible probs with blotchy colour till someone reccomended the Dr Haushka rose day cream. It says 'day' but I used it at night because its quite heavy and oily, didn't think it would go well under makeup. Anyway it worked well and really seemed to even out my skin tone and reduce the redness. I think rose oil really suits my skin, because I also adore a Decleor facial oil in Rose D'Orient. Its was a big outlay (£40 IIRC) but its lasted me for 2 years so far and there is still a third left in the bottle. I tend to use it as a treatment, so dont use it every night.

La Roche Posay Hydreane Riche is a fab moisturiser, really soothing and hydrating. For foundation I use Bourjois Healthy Mix. I've been hankering after Chanels Pro Lumiere, planning to invest in that soon.

use a green base under your foundation, it will kill the red in the skin

Would heartily reccommend Bobbi Brown foundation stick.

Firstly the coverage is great without being at all cakey or thick looking - covers my broken capillaries briliantly (can do without concealer) and leaves skin dewy looking.

Secondly because of the shades - you maybe have similar skin tone to me pale-ish and quite pink. Very, very hard to get a good match that countered the pink and didn't turn orange or grey or look mask-like.

I get it in Sand and it is the most perfect foundation i've ever had in terms of coverage, and colour.

Its very flattering and leaves my skin looking very healthy and natural.

Def try CLINIQUE- they have a range of redness solutions plus a cream that is for irritated skin. I used to have facial eczema and Clinique was all I could use.
They do loads of types of foundations including a very sheer one for dry skin, another called Dewy Smooth and one called Soft Finish.

Neal's yard for skincare: I use the frankincense enriching cream and other products. Transformed my lizard skin.

And for foundation: Estee Lauder Doublewear Light is great, and give good coverage without looking too heavy. Tho you can slap it on in extremis to try to look human (or maybe just me). Doesn't go into dry bits and stays on.

I use the NY frankicense as well.
Also Trilogy Oils at night - currently the Omega something but did go through a bottle of the rosehip one last year.
I do get dehydrated and all over blotchily red as well.
Ages ago had some samples of Darphin Intral and their camomile oil and it was lovely but obscenely expensive.
Mint tea helps me a lot as well.

Barnacle Bill what colour are you in other foundations? I have the BB warm ivory foundation stick and i think it's too pale. How do you apply it (I love this too by the way OP

Oh and Boots have this Skin perfection Supplement - it's definitely worth it.
The cheap own label one, not the other stuff.

Gotabookaboutit · 24/10/2010 20:18

Do you drink the mint tea???lol

Oops, got carried away, didn't I?
Blush

coffeeinbed · 24/10/2010 21:00

But yes, I do.
Keep hoping it will make up for the bottles wine i'm supplementing as well.

Bananapeanutbutter - I cant quite remember the exact shades I had used before but I know that they were usually some variant on 'ivory' (I know that when I had Chanel Vitalumiere I would sometimes get Limpide and sometimes Clair).
When the BB girl told me I was 'sand' I was very dubious and convinced it would be too dark for me, in fact I didn't buy it and decided to go to another BB counter - they reccommended the same shade!

BarnacleBill · 24/10/2010 23:26

Oh and I apply it with a sponge. Few stripes on the sponge then swipe it on my skin. Few extra dabs on the areas that need it.
I find it amazingly easy to apply and blend, partly due to the consistencty of it but probably also due to having the right shade for once.
