my sister reckons i can by dunking them into a bath of cold water Hmm its just around my calves that they are to big. im fed up with searching for ones that fit as it will never happen (i dont like those ones that come in diffrent leg sizes) has anyone tried this? i dont mind them being a little baggy as it goes with the style of the boot but i feel they would look better just a tincy bit tighter
thanks

no idea in all honesty, could you ask a good shoemender is they can recommend anything? or buy some very long socks which you can fold down a couple of times.....

Daydreaming · 21/10/2010 13:22

i wouldn't risk it. better to be a bit baggy than totally trashed.

no you freak of ourse not

I think you will ruin them by dunking them tbh. Definitely ask at a cobblers though.

I have skinny calves, Fly London boots are the only ones I've ever found that I can get on with and don't gape.

Having said that though since I started running my calves have got a bit more muscular and aren't quite so skinny.

Maybe you should take up long distance running OPWink

thats funny because i do run long distanance Smile it has made a difference but not enough oh well think i will go out and get some chunky socks to compliment the look maybe? bonnyday it was not me it was my sister who suggested it... maybe she wanted me to ruin them Hmm

Buy some very cheap ones from charity shops/ebay/carboots, try it and let us know.

Seriously though, I know its possible to loosen leather shoes with damp socks and walk around for hours at a time or stuff them with damp paper/cloth for hours/days- was told this (haven't tried it) by an eastern European girl who used to do this (they couldn't afford things then) and also read something similar in "Ugly" when the author's mum would refuse to buy her bigger shoes.

A really good cobbler could also take it in but would definitely cost you.

In the days when I was young and slim (30 odd yrs ago) when boots were mainly fitted to the leg and had a noticeable curve for the calf I succeeded in taking in a pair of soft leather boots. The sewing was surprisingly easy on the machine. Boots had a long zip so could get at it easily.
