Waxing top lip - what did i do wrong and what can I do about it

Sooo at the grand old age of 40 I finally waxed my top lip for the first time on saturday night.

Used Veet cold wax strips. Just cut them into pieces.

Seemed to ok but yesterday had horrible rash all day and today whole area is covered is covered in horrible spots (proper zit ones !!!! Shock Blush

Whole exercise was meant to turn me into a sophisticated high maintenance laaadeeee. But look like a mucky, spotty teenager.

Is it because i didnt use a specific wax for face? And is there anything i can put on first to stop it happening again.

oh and what can i do to make it go as fast as possibile now.

Covered up with a very thick layer of Benefit Boing this morning x

I'm rubbish with Veet. I once had a good response, all other times I just pulled wax off my lip and left the hair behind.

I get some other soul to do it. It always goes red for a few hours though, personally I would avoid a Saturday night waxing nless it's a night in without company.

If the lip itches what about an antihistamine?

kizzie · 18/10/2010 21:03

It doesnt itch really now. just felt a bit numb yesterday. just looks terrible ...

This high maintenance malarky may not be for me Confused

Yes- crush some aspirin into a paste with water and leave on the affected area for ten minutes.

fuzzywuzzy · 18/10/2010 21:09

I never use wax strips, a pot of wax is better, you put on a super thing layer and whip it off.

On the other hand if you've not waxed anything before go to a salon to get it done, upper lip should be fairly cheap, and you'll learn how it should be done.

I once had top lip threaded (ouch) and exactly same thing happened, the beautician said very common the first few times you do it until top lip gets used to it. I didn't chance it again, just plucked the odd hairs that needed to come out. I feel your pain. Mine was gone in 3 days tops.

ZZZenAgain · 18/10/2010 21:11

I would pluck them out

kizzie · 18/10/2010 21:17

thanks everyone.

Glad yours went in 3 days sandytoes!

can you use the aspirin thing on normal spots too then. (not that i get them Hmm)

havent got any aspirin. Just found some paracetamol - does that work instead.

OP posts:
RandomMusings · 18/10/2010 21:24

oh bless you

It's the salicylic acid in aspirin that you need so paracetamol won't do

kizzie · 18/10/2010 22:14

Ahhhhhh Blush Blush

I'll give the paracetamol a miss then Grin

You need to make sure after waxing not to put any creams/make up etc on your upper lip area for a couple of hours afterwards. Otherwise you will get spots!

vintage4 · 19/10/2010 12:53

i find hair remover cream just as good as waxing as have very quick regrowth>sigh

Ladyhaha · 19/10/2010 13:00

I find that rubbing alcohol (in the form of perfume or body spray) on my top lip immediately after waxing helps. I know it sounds disgusting and it can sting a bit but it definitely works for me!
