Brora sizing - polo necks in particular

Hi, does anyone have any experience with Brora sizing? I got a size 16 v neck last year which was a bit too big - I hate fitted things as I have a bit of a tummy but then again I can be in danger of looking like sack if it's got no shape, as I'm a pear shape with a stupid little head (iykwim), and I do actually have a waist. (sort of...!)

I'm dithering over a classic polo neck, but live abroad, so I never get free p&p and it costs me a fortune in returns (would be cheaper to get a plane ticket home sometimes, I reckon!)

Any advice very gratefully received - don't know whether to go for usual size 16, or size down to 14, but it depends if the style is cut loose or fitted. Gaaah!

Thanks!

I havent bought a polo neck from Brora, but the other things that I have are very big in sizing (even things that you would think of as being fitted).
I would go a size down without hesitation for Brora, especially if you have already found one thing in your regular size too big.

my advice is to not buy any polo necks if you are a curvy size 14 with a tummy and a little head Smile. i bet you have big boobs as well

atually that sounds a bit pervy but hopefully YKWIM

I do know what you mean Kristina but I'm not that big, and I'm tall-ish, and I haven't got big boobs (I'm a classic pear - annoyingly out of proportion - small head, narrow-ish shoulders, average bust, sort of decent waist and widening out slowly from there, which is where it all goes wrong!) That's why I want it a tiny bit fitted, to give me some shape, but not clingy.....

Thanks BST - I think I probably should size down but their sizing on other things this year has been hit and miss. I'm so fed up with shopping in general - anywhere - you can never tell what the sizes are going to be like!

i find brora sizing quite generous so if your weight is around your hips you should be ok to size down

mine is up top so i often have to size up for their dresses

did you get a little card from Brora with the colour samples? what colour are you going for ?

I was just wishing the other day that I had sized up on the jumpers I bought from Brora. They have all shrunk a little (probably because I wash them in the machine - though I do use the special cycle and the coldest water).

Yes I did! And there lies the other dilemma!! Last year I totally got it wrong, after taking the plunge... I find lots of the colours this year too clear and bright, or too dark, and I look better in softer colours...so I've decided to go for the Thyme. Or the almond. ha ha. It's always hard to tell from a little bit of fabric but I think Thyme will be ok and suit me. None of the colours will set the world on fire but then that's not really the point of brora is it?!

I've also got on order and am waiting for, the fair isle round neck sweater in Heath. Am hoping it won't be thick and swampy but we shall see!

Mimsy you are brave. I have a handwash option on my machine but I only dare use it for things I don't mind if they get ruined. Brora in the machine! !

I break my back doing my sweaters in the bath!

Not brave, just uber lazy! And I have a toddler now, so they get dirty faster. Gave up on hand washing.

That fair isle looks nice actually - I like the look of the silver.
