little girls' skirt with vest/slip attached - do they still make these?

I remember from the 70's that I used to wear a pleated skirt which had a silky vest attached to it. Not seen any of these for ages, but would be ideal for dd, who is built like a rake and has problems with skirts falling off her tiny waist! Was thinking it would be good as will be attempting potty training soon and would be easy for her just to hitch up. Nice and warm in winter with a jumper on top too. Am I just harking back to my own childhood or do they still exist?!

I used to wear those too - I remember having a tartan one.
I tried to find some for DD when she little with no joy, unfortunately. It's a pity because they would have been ideal. A dress under a jumper can be a bit too bulky.
Sorry.

this sort?

SecretNutellaFix · 17/10/2010 16:09

that's the retailer

DramaInPyjamas · 17/10/2010 16:17

I had the tartan ones as well, and I couldn't find them anywhere either for my little girl when she was younger..

theagedparent · 17/10/2010 16:22

I was thinking of these the other day. I also had a tartan one.

LostArt · 17/10/2010 16:42

Nutella - I wished I'd asked 4 years ago!

saggarmakersbottomknocker · 17/10/2010 16:47

Aaaw, my dd (also skinny) had loads of these. I had them from a little local shop that doesn't exist now. She had tartan and cord ones, wore them with woolly tights. Smile

TidyBush · 17/10/2010 16:51

I wish I hadn't clicked on this thread. I was forced used to wear these as a child and hated them with a vengence. I always swore I'd never put my DDs in them.

Don't know why I took such a dislike to them but I still moan to my mom about them now Grin

gorehaginhellsbum · 17/10/2010 19:36

Did they only do them in tartan???
I had a bright blue one and sis had red, with a vest attached that was like a piece of nylon/net curtain.

Can you imagine how popular they would be now in jersey vest material with jersey/tweedy and cord(how fab!)skirt etc.

Maybe I will get that sewing machine for Xmas!

dolphin13 · 17/10/2010 21:11

My dd had them in all colour. She's grown up now.

Asda have got something similar in stock at the moment but it has a jumper rather than slip attached.

Will try and find but I am rubbish at links.

dolphin13 · 17/10/2010 21:15

Sorry I have tried but I'm rubbish. They are on the George website though.

ZENZIZENZIZENZIC · 17/10/2010 21:21

My gosh, that's blast from the past!

I'm with TidyBush, I hated mine, they were soooo itchy. Jersey ones may be marginally better.

There are so many shops that put the elastic in waists now, I think that's the way to go Grin

MrsRhettKilledTheButler · 17/10/2010 21:23

ASDA have some

eeky · 17/10/2010 23:09

gore, I think an updated version would be fab too! Not mad on tartan or the polyester mix fabric on that website. Am thinking soft cord, tweed or velvet in flared or pleated styles with silk or cotton jersey vest. In fact if I can get a cheap sewing macine I may be practising with all my worn ot pairs of cords etc, hoarded for when they may "come in handy"...

Quite fancy a version for myself too, to save having a tight skirt waist around my awful 2 dc's in 2 years middle!

The Asda ones I'm not sure are any better than the '70s ones IMHO. I think they look like they're from then and not in a good old retro way either.

OsbegaEthewulf · 18/10/2010 10:40

I've made for my dd by taking the waistband off skirts and sewing it on the bottom of an old vest
