suggestions for wedding outfit for wobbly tum

I had a baby 8 weeks ago and am mainlining on jaffa cakes and thorntons caramel slices. I have a winter wedding coming up and I have no idea where to start. I was going to wait and try and lose the belly but I think that is overly optimistic. My shape is holly willoby however you spell it, about a stone heavier! And if possible I should be able to bf fairly easily.
any ideas?

bamboobutton · 15/10/2010 10:51

spanx is the only answer here.

magic knickershop sells ones from knee to bust.

bluecardi · 15/10/2010 10:51

wow babes with babies! good idea - thanks mermaid. I am living in jersey cotton at the moment and I think I need something that holds me in a bit more.

I don't know about spanx bamboo, - I am 'allergic' to anything too polyester. And they are so expensive. are they really worth it?

this?

janmoomoo · 15/10/2010 12:33

Spanx are def worth it, they perform miracles.

Those dresses are lovely, I want the red one even tho I am not BF.

scotsgirl23 · 15/10/2010 12:41

spank - the "higher power" ones NOT the normal ones which give muffin top - are Fan-fecking-tastic. Not uncomfortable, no over or underspill, come right up to your bra so no extra lines etc.

scotsgirl23 · 15/10/2010 12:46

this is pretty if you don't want to go too cocktail dress

debenhams

Dress shape wise - if you're not loving your tummy ( i feel your pain btw) then I'd suggest something which is fitted under the bust, but then flows out, or is a line, below that, so you don't have to worry too much about your tummy showing. There are a lot of slightly softer dress shapes around at the moment.

lucy101 · 15/10/2010 12:47

second Spanx - and the higher power - up to your bra and down to mid-thigh - they are miracle workers!

scotsgirl23 · 15/10/2010 12:54

Few other curve friendly dress possibilities (can't say re breast feeding as (whispers) I didn't ducks to avoid volley of rotten tomatoes coming my way

satin so may require spanx to avoid vpl

jersey so should be easier for access - nork friendly neckline

unusual but cute

scotsgirl
I really like those draped dresses - I reckon they might work. I like the viv westwood esque shape but sometimes they are less than generous on my thunder thighs (before having a baby when i was a happy 12/14). And I have yet to attempt a post preggers try on session

OK then I'll give spanx a go - it sort of broadens my horizons (dress shape wise) as well if I feel that i am being held in

I really sympathise - I'm still carrying an extra 1.5 baby stones and am a fairly similar shape to you. Spanx do really open up your options though - they make lighter fabrics, chiffons, satin etc a possibility where they are damn near impossible if you have any lumps or bumps at all.

the other option is something more fifties, prom dress ish - more structured and no thigh issues. Quite a brave style though.

margherita76 · 15/10/2010 13:42

I love prom style but am not brave enough.

I don't think I appreciated my 'figure' enough before hand!

do you get very sweaty in spanx??

OP posts:
scotsgirl23 · 15/10/2010 14:02

No, they're really quite cool. Just, whatever you do, don't try to economise and buy cheap ones. It's NOT worth it.

margherita76 · 15/10/2010 18:09

I have been to the shops. Horrifyingly I'm more like a size 16. Perhaps I should wait til I've stopped demolishing the Jaffa cakes. I tried on a hobbs nw3 high waisted pencil skirt - thought i could do that with a pretty blouse- and as usual it fits round the waist and not round my bum. Not even spanx could save me So back to the jersey dresses...

Once again, pain felt! Just been out shopping for an interview outfit and frankly, who ever decided that all suits should come with pencils skirts or bootleg trousers should be slowly tortured!

Came back with a random skirt.......

lucyflawless · 16/10/2010 06:27

Similar situation here.

Got a wedding next week. My "baby" is 10m old Shock and i'm still big and frumpy.

Going shopping today but feeling a bit gloomy about it tbh.
