"Investment" bag

I'm sure you'll be able to help me ladies.

I'd like to spend a bit on a bag, a really, really nice bag to take out and about during the day when I dont need 10 tonnes of kid stuff which is a little more often these days.

I've looked at Mulberry but if I'm honest whilst their leathers are lovely, I'm a bit miffed that some are not even lined properly etc - for that kind of money, I think they do actually lack something in craftmanship.

I dont want anything to flashy or bling (some of the Vuitton and Gucci type bags are a little full-on for me) but I've got that kind of money to spend on the right bag - £600-900 I suppose, though it would have to be perfect for that money...

If you had that kind of money to spend on a really nice bag and Mulberry didn't exist, where would you be looking?

Thanks in advance...

Thank you so much for all your suggestions and links, I am really enjoying browsing.

I think I am warming back to the idea of a Mulberry. I think the ones I've seen in my local department store are a little un-wow, but I am loving the look of this depending what its lining was like. I might check it out.

I like the idea of a Delvaux after I read about them in India Knight's books where she mentioned the continuous stitching - but in practice, I dont see any that really get me horny enthused and lots of £££ if they dont really get you excited.

Tods are a lovely brand definitely, I have some shoes, scrummy.

I'd be using this bag for just here and there on days I dont have too much kid stuff happening (i.e no leaky drinks to hold or ten tonnes of crap that they seem to need you to end up carrying for them!)

I dont work so it doesn't need to hold a laptop or be "officy" and needs to look as good with jeans as anything else.

It needn't be too large but it does need to go on my shoulder because I just cant be doing with having a whole hand out of action!

Keep your suggestions coming, I do hope you are enjoying doing some browsing as much as me Smile

I actually think if you're after a bag thats going to last years then you don't want it to be too 'wow'.

I've had gucci, LV, Tods and mulberry over the years and my mulberry east/west bayswater is probably my favourite.

Its chocolate brown and beautifully made but not really 'wow'. However my more 'wow' bags that I loved inititally - well I got bored of them quite quickly.

But then I think a good handbag used everyday for a few years is a good buy cost per wear and don't feel bad at buying a new one every couple of years.

Hermes is my dream but they are £££ and again not sure I wouldn't get bored after a while.

Agree with Tracey about it not being too 'wow'. I've got quite a few bags and my favourite (of the ones I own) is a Prada one I bought in Paris in the mid 1990's - cost a lot at the time. It's a zebra print on calf hair. Although i don't use it much (not an everyday kind of bag) this has been my best 'investment' buy as I know I'll never ever tire of it Grin

Tatty, the link took me to the mulberry homepage. What is the name of the style you are looking at? They do lots of beautiful and comfortable designs.
