Revamping my work wardrobe

I am 40 something stuck in a rut -I work in professional office environment but I don't need to wear suits all the time. I feel like all the stuff that I buy for work makes me look frumpy and is too "grownup" eg. this dress www.marksandspencer.com/Petite-Slash-Neck-Sleeve-Dress/dp/B002W32GBE?_encoding=UTF8&categoryNodeID=42967030&node=308803031&mnSBrand=core&ref=sr_1_26&qid=1287093921&sr=1-26&rh=n%3A308803031&page=3
How can I make my workwear more lively and more me without spending a fortune - in terms of budget, I used to my suits at Jigsaw and Hobbs but I'm now more of a M&S or Gap budge (never Next...)
Thanks

I would team that dress with spotty or lace tights, patent heels and a skinny leopard belt.

Maybe invest in a couple of more on trend pieces to mix in with the classic stuff. Right now my favourite work pieces include pussybow blouses, carrot leg trousers, plain fitted dresses with either a huge necklace or bold belt/scarf, cardis worn open over outfits and belted, heeled loafers and brogues. Reading that back I've realised how much I love workwear!
