help I have to take my cankles to a posh wedding

Please help S&B ladies I have the cankles to end all cankles and it is a really smart wedding. For last years winter wedding I managed to get away (just,I think) with my old faithful Victoriana type lace up boots with a skirt but it was a nice little informal wedding.

Thats not going to do for a full blown hotel reception etc, etc is it?

Maybe I should purchase the most riduclous hat so that no one would ever get around to looking down at my legs, yes I am getting that desperate!

I am a 12, nearly verging on a 14 - how did that happen - and 5'5"
Can I get away with a beautiful dress, legs be damned? Am prepared to spend up to £ 150

Please help, my cankles and I will be forever grateful.

You need the highest heels you can cope with. They will give shape to your calf and therefore slim the ankle. I am be-cankled too but am amazed how they disappear with a good heel.

Are you wearing hosiery? Or are you fake tanning?

If hosiery, then go with matt opaques (Wolford is always my choice).

Go for a dress that rests just above (literally) or exactly on the knee.

I would suggest a dress with a pattern, and if there is any black in it go with high heels in black and sheer black tights, opques don't look very dressed up for a wedding. I think the idea needs to be to keep the eye on the dress and have plain legs and shoes with high heels to elongate and slim. Also be sure you are not driving and can have a large glass of champagne as soon as you can - ight be a confidence boost!

Wedges for height whilst still being able to walk, and a maxi? Then no one sees the cankles!

Or nude high heels with either bare legs or nude fishnets - and AMAZING dress to draw eye upwards.

Let me know what you think of either of those ideas and I will link to a few potential dresses!

Trouser suit?

KristinaM · 15/10/2010 11:00

i agree with heels but not stilletoes

you need a slim shapely heel to support whats above

tell us about all your best features so we can recommend dresses Smile

Heels but a court or peep toe that is quite low at the front to elongate your legs - step away from the strappy shoes.

Depending on your figure, a prom style/fifties type dress could be good - something that is quite wide at knee height would automaticaaly make your legs look narrower. Keep to knee length tho, calf length will probably make your legs look like stmups.

mermaidspurse · 15/10/2010 11:59

oh brilliant ideas, thank you.

tulpe I think you may be right about the height of the dress at about knee level.
I had just about gathered that by keeping the shoes and leg the same colour it would help.
higgle firstly champagne excellent point. I also like the idea of pattern, a little black and linking that through.
notyummy wedges may be the way to go but are maxis still ok for winter?

For some reason this wedding has thrown me into a rabbit in the headlights panic.
I did think about a trouser suit but want to float around in a dress and it will do for Christmas parties too.

Features... good waist and tummy, quite a long back in proportion to my legs, boobs still where they should be, 36c and good arms it's all pooled around the anklesGrin

Ok, have found the dress, looked nothing on the hanger but lovely on, called twilight but looks navy and a 12Smile

also sucked into buying this necklace as it livened it up and looked good with the neckline.

Soooo what next, what colour tights and shoes?
navy, oops sorry twilight? As tulpe said on the knee works well and cankles don't look too bad.
maybe sparkly clutch?

Can I do black tights, shoes? Am thinking that maybe not?

Can you do the nude (as suggested above?).

I would say silver shoes but they would probably draw attention to your ankles.

mermaidspurse · 24/10/2010 13:12

I would love silver shoes but fear you are right.
What colour is nude? Be back in a mo have to get some ply from b&q, bloody sunday diy.

nude shoes

Several people have suggested nude fishnets tights as a good solution, not sure where you would get them.
