warmer tops for teenager

seeing as you lot come up trumps every time i ask for help with clothes for my bloody picky 13 yr old DD, i am back againGrin

She is desparate for some warmer tops, as all the ones she has are short sleeved t shirts or longer tunic style tops (worn with leggings). We are going away next week, so i really need to find some asap, but - as always- money is tight. Can probably only spare around £30 before next week, so need to get nice but cheap good qualityBlush

We have gone through the entire debehnams range for 13yr olds, and she picked two that maybe she likedHmm The trouble is, she has so little self confidence that she doesnt think she can wear trendy clothes - where as i see a lovely girl with a lovely slim figure who could probably wear justabout anythingEnvy

Due to motor skills problems, buttons, complicated fasteners etc are out. She refuses flatly to wear skirts, so most tops have to go with jeans. I am trying to convince her that it is a little too cold now for leggings, which means all her tunic tops are no good either.

Please, can anyone advise on any good sources. We have tried online Debenhams, H&M, peacocks and even bloomin asdaBlush I know she would wear basic long sleeve t shirts, but i am trying to persuade her to be a but more 'with it' in terms of fashion. Trouble is, i have no idea what other teenagers are wearingBlush

Over to youGrin

Make a trip to Top Shop. Most of the teenager girls I know shop in Top Shop.

ooh, i never thought of top shop! I think the last time i was in TS was when i was a teenagerBlush

anywhere else?

New Look?

GetOrfMoiLand · 13/10/2010 13:23

Have you got a Hollister near you? They do very nice tops which every teenager in the land love. But expensive, though.

Tesco clothes are good, as is Primark.

DD loathes Top Shop. She likes stuff from Superdry, Jack Wills (hideously expensive), Hollister and H&M.

poorly - have tried new look. I think its just she doesnt think anything will suit her - where as if i say that 'in mn's opinion, this top is good' etc, it may do the trick. It worked for a lovely dress we got a few month backHmm

there are a couple of pics of DD1 on my profile, in the second one, with her grey trousers and red sun top - this is how she would go out in the middle of winter, given half the chance. She has SN and no fashion sense whatsoever!

surely the thing to do is to go round the shops picking up all the things that you think will look good and telling her that MN said they'd look great.

I'm pretty happy to endorse any choices you make!

Also, try taking her to the normal concessions in Debenhams (rather than the range for 13 year olds). She'll presumably find something she likes.

Maybe you could persuade her to wear a shirt. Denim shirts and checked shirts seem to be fashionable and I'm sure you could get some with poppers rather than buttons.

Or just buy some jumpers to go on top of the short sleeved t-shirts.

I didn't have any confidence at 13 either, so I mostly wore jeans, t-shirts and jumpers.

jetcat · 13/10/2010 13:50

checked shirts are out - she wont even try one on, same with denim. I may resort to a little blackmail bribery persuasion thoughGrin

I am liking your idea of layering though, she does love cardigans, so i guess we can go with short sleeve tops with cardis/jumpers if needed.

Getorf - we are going to primark on sat, we normally end up there. I would love her to have at least a couple of decent tops though, so will check out your links thanksSmile

Will give her this thread to read when she gets home from schoolGrin
