Could I wear this?

To an interview?

I can't afford to buy a decent suit, am carrying a lot of baby weight and desperately need something to wear to an interview next week for a job I desperately want.

I have a fitted black jacket to wear with it, it's way too small but doesn't some style bod say jackets should always be too small to look good? That's what I keep telling myself anyway. I'll be all right so long as they don't ask me to raise my arms!

what do you think? Thought it would hide my bumps and might be wearable again where a suit won't, unless I get the job.

M&S dress here

TIA

I did try some cheap suits on in tesco today but they didn't have my size and bits that did fit looked bloody awful. I am too fat and lumpy for cheap suit material!

absolutely - the dress looks really professional.

Not sure about a too tight jacket though. i think the idea with jackets is to go smaller rather than larger - but I think way too tight looks awful, not too mention uncomfortable. Could you find an inexpensive black jacket to go with?

Well it's quite thick material and is lined (the jacket) so I don't think you can necessary tell it's waaay too small. Unless you were really focused on it. It's sort of the lining that's tight but the outer part looks fine - it's just bloody uncomfortable!

I'll wear it in front of my DH later and see what he says.

Maybe I could just carry it and cross my fingers for a warm day?

I can't really afford the dress so def can't strech to a jacket as well.

I might hve a look on ebay - all my friends are skinny types so can't borrow one either which is a pain.

Don't know what interview for, but I'd have said yes, if it fits well, and looks good on you and you have a good belt to wear with it. Agree it would look better than a Tesco suit.

Only you know how comfortable you'll feel in your jacket. Myself, have never liked wearing anything at interviews I have to think about at all once I've put it on. And I think clothes should have definition, and not be too large but not too small either. IMO, Trinny and Susannah, for example, were rightly keen on definition, but put some of the larger people they styled into jackets that just looked too tight. I'm not saying yours does.

Hmmm, I know, I don't want to be thinking about the jacket when I should be concentrating. It's a public sector management job so I feel like I have to look pretty decent. I do have loads of nice work clothes but they're all 2-3 sizes too small. I don't intend to stay this big so even if i had the money i would struggle to justify spending a lot when I might not even get the job.

Maybe I will just have to hold the jacket? Seems like the best option (if I can't find a REALLy cheap one on ebay).

God, do other people have stupid clothing dilemma's like this? Last time I had an interview not that long after DC1 was born I looked ok from the outside but, it was all held together with safety pins and several pairs of control tights. I had to walk at a snails pace so i didn't unravel. Blush

This thread seems to be have taken over from your other one on interview wear.

Was at one time an HR Director in public sector and, though I do think the dress is professional-looking, if this is a management job of any seniority, would have to agree with other advice that best option is suit, skirt or trouser - or smart jacket and skirt/trousers that don't match but are very well coordinated - or a dress and jacket, ditto.

I think holding jacket might be a little distracting. Perhaps you could acquire one that goes with the dress and then get it taken in when you lose weight? Or acquire a suit now instead, and have that altered later?

Bugger, yes have just seen the other thread - I'm a bit useless with mumsnet. have ordered that dress now. Can always send it back.

Will have a look on ebay now at the links already suggested. It's so annoying having to spend so much time faffing over what to wear when i should be preparing. oh how I'd love to be a consistent size/normal shape.

No probs in returning stuff to M and S if you decide to.

Don't worry - you do need to feel happy about what you're going to wear as well as preparing intellectually. Know exactly where you're coming from, but don't stress too much about size.

I had a career to Senior Management level in public sector, plus my DS, and was always Size 18 or more. My attitude has been just to try to apply the intelligence/judgment I use in my work to the challenge of finding clothes, accessories, etc that I felt enabled me to look as good as I could. Have always loved fashion and shopping, so got lots of enjoyment out of it too - though not on eve of interviews!

Hope all goes really well.
