Help, 9yr old has inherited my thighs.

I took DD shopping today, we were after new winter clothes, including jeans, I was hoping to buy her a couple of pairs.
They are all skinny jeans, and the poor thing has inherited my thighs which means they'll never fit her.
We ended up with a couple of skirts, some leggings and a dress but she wants jeans, I want her to have jeans and no jeans fit.

Does anywhere do non skinny, non naf looking jeans?
We only tried the cheaper shops which is what my budget can afford but also where they sell the more fashionable things she wants.

(Also the same question for me if possible. If they fit our thighs they are huge everywhere else)

DD2, aged 10, has this problem. We went shopping last weekend and she tried on loads of pairs - she is not at all overweight, but quite muscular from lots of dancing and swimming - everything was too tight on the thighs and too large on the waist. We eventually found two pairs that fit, one in Next and the other in the ghastly Tammy Girl of all places.

Oasis, 'my favourite jeans' are a lovely shape with a lower leg that isn't exactly bootcut, but balances the shape of your thighs. Maybe those with a belt? They are normally about £45 but I picked up 2 pairs in the sale for £15.

Otherwise, jeggings from M&Co and Next are a heavy denim with loads of stretch, so they look like jeans, but they fit everyone. They don't suit everyone because of the narrow lower leg, but if she wants skinny jeans, they will fit.

Wtf are you going to do for hip-to-knee in the meantime?

taintedpaint · 12/10/2010 00:13

Straight leg jeans are often quite a good option for those with thighs not suited to skinny jeans. I should know, I'm one of them! I'm not sure which shops to recommend as I don't have a DD of the pre-teen age group, but if you shop around a bit, I would take a look at that style. HTH :).

We gave an M&Co in town, it's the only clothes shop we do have but I can try there tomorrow. It may be my saviour!
I buy my own clothes from the teen range in there so maybe I can have some jeans tooGrin

Try these, only £9 and you get free postage and returns if you click the link

They're denim rather than jersey so look more jean like. The XS fits my 9 year old.

Another vote for jeggings. I love Asda and have bought guite a few there, am wearing right now my faves which are a kind ofgrey denim, don't look cheap, but cost me a fiver and are very forgiving thigh-wise and deffo look better and are more comforatble than jeans. (Btw, did I say I love Asda? went to a drinks do on the terrace of the House of Lords last summer wearing an Asda dress, lots of compliemtns and askings where I got it)

I ordered a pair of those Vertbaudet 'full fit' jeans for DD a few months ago - having measured her, according to the stated dimensions they should have fit her beautifully.

They didn't, they were smaller than the chart said Sad. Really disappointing.

Thank goodness for the jeggings. I can't wear them because I've reached the age where my knees are fat! Have to stick to straightlegs or (still) bootcuts.

sethstarkaddersmum · 12/10/2010 15:08

This thread is making me so, so sad - I am absolutely horrified to see the phrase 'huge thighs' and 'nine year old' in the same post!
Does no-one else feel like this?

This is not a criticism of the OP, who is just trying to find clothes for her perfectly normal dd, but Angry Angry Angry at manufacturers designing clothes which are going to promote body image problems in CHILDREN!

I can't believe no-one else is horrified by this!

GrimmaTheNome · 12/10/2010 15:39

Not exactly 'horrified' but mightily pissed off!

bigTillyMint · 13/10/2010 08:50

I don't think my DD has huge thighs - she has a muscular build because she does a lot of sport, and both her parents have muscular thighs. She is slim and petite with long legs and small hips and waist, which is why the plus sizes are way too big.

MuGGGhoulWump · 13/10/2010 16:09

Didn't have a chance to go into M&Co today, I'm back on steroids for my asthma so it was a case of grabbing essentials and getting home.
Will check at the weekend.

DD doesn't have big thighs as such, and neither do I really, it's just that they are not in proportion.
We don't really suit skinnies either, though leggings look ok.

GrimmaTheNome · 15/10/2010 11:42

I ordered the boden jeggings but they are way too skinny for my DD - I thought from the size chart they might be ok but really tight on the leg.

However at the same time I noticed these - just the job, has the necessary 'give', DD loves them. Looks like they are out of stock already for most sizes so I'm glad the other link prompted me to look - hopefully they'll do more like this in future.
