Not sure which board to ask, are creams with nut oils OK for BF mums to use?

I switched to more natural products during pregnancy, making some of my own moisturisers even with almond oil/coconut oil/advocado etc. Also using liz earl products, which has some hazelnut and other seed oils, do I need to be concerned about touching feeding baby with residue on my skin and transferring? Baby is now 9 days old and I'm a bit confused about the whole nut alergy issue

Please advise if you have any thoughts. TIA

Hmmm.. Im not a professional or even someone who uses such creams BUT imo I wouldn't.

I know babies need to avoid nuts (peanuts in particular) until over 12 months (from what i recall) and I know whatever you put onto your skin is absorbed in small quantities so I guess they may be a small chance it may be transferred via your milk..?

I wouldn't risk it tbh either via milk or it being on your skin.

BUT as I said, im no professional and hopefully someone may come along who knows better than me. Smile Just didn't want to ignore you x

lansinoh says this: There is conflicting evidence about whether exposure to nut oils in infancy
increases or reduces the risk of developing allergy in later life. Studies have shown
that nut-allergic children can have developed multi-nut allergies within the first year of
life, and that they can show allergy symptoms on their first known exposure to nuts.
This suggests that they are being sensitized to nuts before they actually eat them, and
this must create an index of suspicion about ointments and creams that contain nut
oils. Until this issue is resolved, avoidance of nut oils in nipple creams seems a
sensible approach.'

Thank you, I appreciate it I had no point of reference at all, I will also ask my m/w later. It makes sense to avoid but I notice the Burts Bees baby cream has almond oil in it so I was thinking perhaps it was OK. I'll read the sources properly later (baby crying) thank you :)

I think its also on how the nuts have been prepared..???!

I didn't read all the articles thorugh but got a glimpse and think it depends on how they are heated.? I may be wrong. its possible Grin.

Let us know how you get on x
