What do people think of Boden quality

Hi, just bought my first item from Boden and can't believe how poor the quality is, especially for the price. £79 for a tunic that could easily pass for Primark.

Most things I have found to be fab BUT I have had the odd item that has shocked me by being so poor.

Off the top of my head is the childrens twin pack of floor length nighties. Very very thin and bobbled on the first wash. Not what I expect from Boden.

There was something else - but cannot recall what. I now tend to read the reviews a bit more before ordering.

miche8 · 07/10/2010 16:32

i've always been very pleased with the quality, mainly order kids clothes though. Did order a ladies summer tee and sent it back because the material was too thin for the price. I liked a few of the tunics but have never ordered due to the price even with a code, i go off my clothes quickly.

Oumasrusks · 07/10/2010 18:23

I find it generally good, but I've been a bit surprised at the quality of the material of some of the tops this season. To be honest, I think the quality has deteriorated over the past year but the prices unfortunately have gone up a bit.

ivykaty44 · 07/10/2010 18:26

I think the quality has reduce everywhere - thinner material in a lot of shops on the high street - cutting back on quality to keep ht eprices down i think so that people aren't put of shopping for clohtes

hattymattie · 07/10/2010 18:30

I think the kids stuff seems to be much better quality than the adults. Agree that some of the tops are ridiculously thin and also find that knitwear often bobbles. Have just taken delivery of sherpa fleece for my son on the 25% off deal and it is fabulous and will do him all winter and probably next one as well. Also children's jeans very good and little cami top for myself decent material. Generally I try to steer away from anything with viscose or modal in.

escorchio · 07/10/2010 18:34

I mainly buy the kids stuff, but have found it hugely variable, and as a result of buying two items which were so far off sizes I had to go up two for the replacements, I always read the reviews too now.

THe good stuff is usually brilliant - 3DDs, and can usually pass down, but when it is not so good, it is atrocious for the money.

MaeMobley · 07/10/2010 18:40

Quality of cashmere very poor for the price but I was too lazy to send it back.

I buy a lot of MiniBoden and find most of it very good.I buy because of quality as I begrudge replacing things.I've resold every bit of MiniBoden I've ever bought because it still looks so damn good even 4th hand sometimes.I only ever sent back the sequined girl's tops(last winter) because the sequins came off.

Their sizing is totally crap on MiniBoden though, the girls cords were hysterical this year seriously your dd would have to be Betty Spaghetti if they wanted to wear them.

Have never bought the adult stuff though as I find there is cheaper good quality adult clothes to be found elsewhere(and it does look a tad mumsy).

linconlass · 07/10/2010 19:29

milamae- were do you get yr clothes as alternative to boden........... looking for tips !!!

Meggles76 · 07/10/2010 20:24

I am a big Boden fan - especially the children's clothes. I have always been happy to pay for quality. BUT, I think the quality is not so good on some stuff this season. Got daughter dalmation print dress which is nice but these dresses are normally cotton lined - this year they are not - some cheaper man made lining instead. I had to send back a spotty top because it arrived with a hole in the seam. Sad
The boyfriend cardigan has been a good buy though

accessorizequeen · 07/10/2010 20:31

I don't think I'll buy any more for me, I got a vneck cardie which is ok but the tops I bought last year haven't lasted and the sleeveless cardigan was rubbish. So thin and nasty, even the colour was vile went straight back! However DP gets most of his shirts from there and they've been great. I buy a lot of stuff for my eldest dc so I can pass it down to his 2 younger brothers & it will still look good. Plus they do some things like cords & hoodies really well.

Meggles76 · 07/10/2010 20:38

Agree re: the mens shirts. DH wears and wears them and they always look great.
Other good buys have been pyjamas and nighties for dd and ds - usually buy these when I have a decent discount code.

scruffymuff · 07/10/2010 20:42

The girls cords are great and the jeans- they fit so well on my dd! The mini boden tops keep their shape well and the all the coats we have had are super quality. Not sure about the womens stuff- The only thing I ever bought was a raincoat, and I don't like the buttons on it or all the loose threads. I find it all a bit mumsie.

MilaMae · 08/10/2010 12:59

When I buy clothes which sadly isn't often so I do look a bit of a scruffbag these days I'm a White Stuff,Fat Face,Debenhams(Monteray),Next girl. White Stuff is hit and miss though.I find Next very good qualitywise actually but sadly can't find much in there for me. Used to frequent Gap but not since it's gone all beige and white. When I was teaching I loved Jigsaw but I think it's Bodenlike in price so avoid it now.

Re MiniBoden the heart jeans are fab and fit my dd well, colours are sadly lacking though this season. The boys tartan pull ups are amazing and just go on and on. I am a strict code abuser though.I settle for nothing less than 15% or £10 off £30.Now my boys are into the bigger sizes with discount MB isn't an awful lot more than Next to be honest. I then factor in resale price on top.I often use the previous seasons sales to fund the next iykwim.

I've bought Asda stuff and it's shrunk 2 sizes in one wash.Last winter I had to replace all the boys pyjamas because of this. Sainsbury's Tu and H&M I find to be ok kids quality and if you search quite Bodeny but it's time consuming so if you factor in bus fare and a coffee you need to watch it.

CerealOffender · 08/10/2010 13:01

their knitwear is shitola but trousers are normally good.

LynetteScavo · 08/10/2010 13:07

I've found the kids stuff to be OK, but the womens stuff can be shocking.

I went to a "town hall" sale recently, and laughed at the quality of the clothes.

lexp72 · 25/11/2010 12:45

I bought a cardigan in the sale and it already has a large hole in the side ! (only wore and washed 3 times!) I'm not shopping there again, the prices are way too much. High street quality but double the price.

ProfessorLaytonIsMyLoveSlave · 25/11/2010 12:50

The children's stuff is generally good quality and lasts well (it's a pretty reliable option for buying second-hand on eBay because of that). I've heard more and more people unhappy with the womenswear quality, though.

sue52 · 25/11/2010 16:12

I am generally pleased with the quality. I've found it washes well and keeps shape and colour.
