Tiered skirts? Age 40??

Having recently discovered skinny jeans from Wrap I am now feeling more inspired about making an effort with my appearance and indeed I have noticed some rather nice tiered skirts about. Not too short and a bit floaty but in cord etc to be worn with ribbed or cable tights etc. Here's the problem- I turn 40 next month. Am I just too old? Be honest (but not brutal..!)

nice tiered skirts . Really?

I think tiered skirts are incredibly dated but if you have a link/example I am prepared to change my mind

But why would you be too old for a skirt at 40 unless they really are hippy looking?

I don't understand

I hope I've just explained myself really badly and I'm not all that dated! Saw a skirt in Wrap but will have to go away and learn how to link. Basically I'm talking about what might have been similar to a rara skirt in the olden days but has only one deepish flounce at the bottom and no longer than just above the knee. Not a peasant skirt

I have spent most of the summer in a tiered, chambray skirt, and I'm 45 and fat. And what's more, I don't care. I like it, think it looks great, and one of the great advantages of middle age is no longer giving two hoots what the mythical fashion police say.

I like the dark one Turk1. I think it would look nice with tights and boots. I would wear it and I am older than you. The paler denim looks a bit wishy washy

Turk1 · 07/10/2010 13:37

Yep, dark one was one I'm considering. So glad we're all in agreement now just need one that's not so many £s. Wish I did care less about opinions of others. Need to get past fear of being sniggered at. Do you think skirt might blow up in wind? Esp when putting kids in car?? People would def snigger then

you'll be fine I think. And I would wear really dark tights underneath so the wind blowing it up would not be that big a disaster/
Also I tend to layer boyfriend cardigan or jacket over the top so the skirt can only fly so high Grin
If not do what the queen does and weightthe hem...

I was admiring that wrap skirt the other day; only issue for me would be making sure the waist isn't gathered as I need a smooth line around the middle.
(I'm also older than you).
And being made of denim it shoudn't lift too much in the wind.

Turk1 · 07/10/2010 20:33

I also need smooth line around the middle (and magic pants) but I thought that skirt seemed ok. Have been checking out tights as I fancy some really thick cable style ones. M&S have some grey footless tights along that line so may have to investigate... WWYT, I think you should go for it- you go first Wink

Think I'll decline actually - looking at the zoom, it does look suspiciously puffed out where it comes out under the top. Smile
