So what do you do when the zip is completely bust?

Is my v expensive parka able to be saved.

The actual "zip" bit that joins the 2 sections has come off and been lost.
Can i get another from "somewhere" and replace it or does the entire zip need to be replaced at the dry cleaners?

i am absolute rubbish at this sort of thing and don't want to replace the parka obviously but not sure how to go about fixing it?

any clues??
thanks!

Take it to a Quick Stitch and they'll be able to tell you a price. I took DD's Next coat as the whole zip needed replacing but coat was pristine and she loved. However, the lady said it would cost about £30 and the coat on;y cost about £28! I gave up.

If your coat is really expensive though and you love it, then taking it might be the answer. Think it's quite a job to put in a new zip.

heeeheeeee- nor did I!

I took mine into the shop - will defo save the site as a fave though.

luciemule its definitely a site i'll keep as a favourite too but fortunately, i popped into my local drycleaners where they have a man who does their sewing.

I showed them my problem and they measured the zip, showed me their zip selection and will charge £23 for the job inc a few other bits that need doing to the coat - great price i think!!!

That's brilliant.
I tried to get a new zip for a handbag and was quoted £50! It was a fairly long one though and the cobblers (who quoted the cobblers) was in Hampstead.
I still have the bag and would love to get it done somehow.

I got a long zip replaced in a dress at my local dry-cleaners for £10. I have replaced zips in skirts and trousers myself using my machine but didn't want to attempt my dress!

Morag- are you in London? if so theres a dry cleaners/cobblers i Chapel Market i the Angel

They may do it (The fixed the zip o my purse) and are pretty cheap (£5 i think)

moragbellingham · 10/10/2010 20:54

Yes, I can get there easily. I'll take it along and see what they say, thanks Milk.
I want to give my bag a new lease of life.
