I've had an allergic reaction to hair dye. Am I doomed to suffer grey hair forever??

I've used hair dye in the past with no side effects, however, the last time I tried one (1 month ago) my scalp started tingling so I rinsed it off immediately.

Does this reaction mean that I am now permanently sensitised to hair dyes, or is it worth giving it another go? Should I wait a few months? I had a baby a few months ago and am bfing - do the hormones have an impact?

Help! I'm going greyyyy!

ime you can get over-sensitised (if tht's the word) when bfing, I did. If you can afford, maybe a trip to the hairdressers instead of DIY? Some good advice and a pro product worked for me. I had mine done about 3mo after baby born each time in the end, after itchiness and stuff soon after birth.

Yes, be very careful. This happened to a friend of mine who'd dyed her hair for years. She suddenly had a bad reaction to her usual brand; ended up in hospital, her face all swelled up, she's now resigned to embracing the grey. I'm not saying this will happen to you, but proceed with caution.

Gulp! Thanks for the advice, will call my hairdresse. In the meantime, anyone want a brand new packet of chocolate brown hair dye? Grin

I had a reaction to an dark brown organic dye whilst bfing too, 3 days before my wedding (on a test patch).

They mistakenly used the same dye about six months later and I was fine.

Maybe it's all a case of trial and error and sometimes a re-formulation of an old product that happens.

I am more sensitive to some brands, could you even try a different brand?

Book in at a good salon for a skin test they usually do themfor free and can monitor the results and advise you on products hair dyes that may have less chemicals .

I've has similar problems. Am okay with Aveda, or a Wella semi-permanent dye. I had an even worse reaction to the 'stain remover' that they use in salons, you might want to be careful there too. HTH.
