Cocoon [or as they called it in the 80s - batwing] jumpers

Are cocoon or batwing style jumpers in fashion? My younger sister (late 20's) who is currently on secondment with her company in Washington DC sent me as a present this:

www.anntaylor.com/catalog/product.jsp?productId=27217&N=1200006&pCategoryId=3939&categoryId=181&Ns=CATEGORY_SEQ_181&loc=TN&gridSize=sm&showAll=true&defaultColor=Dark Navy&defaultSizeType=Regular

[hope that link works]
i used to have a nice wardrobe when I worked in city but now with two babies and a very reduced bank account my day to day wear is shamefully crap and i genuinely have no idea what is in and what is not or what is nice and what is not

thoughts?

link doesn't work

notinmypocket · 05/10/2010 14:22

Not sure what yours looks like as the site you link to is down but I have a couple of 'batwing jumpers' I bought last year and am not afraid to wear them again this winter!

southeastastra · 05/10/2010 14:22

i have one, it's really unflattering Grin

moragbellingham · 05/10/2010 14:27

didn't work for me either. I found the cocoon sweater coat, very nice but it's not that is it?

I bought a gorgeous cocoon cardi from Reiss last year and still wear it.
This year they are not really around much apart from one in M&S.
That says it all I suppose.

I imagine it is prob good quality from there and fairly classic style and you will get some wear out if it even though I've not seen it!

i will try the link once more (then i will admit defeat with the webpage) but not convinced it will work:

Navy&defaultSizeType=Regular

Cocoon sleeve cardigan

so the answer is that it is not very this season so to speak but ann taylor is an ok clothes designer?? god i am so clueless at this stuff now. i only really had half a clue 10 years ago when i was mid 20's and had a bit of spare cash for clothes

It might be just me, but that is just what I've been looking for!!
I've bought a dark denim skirt with a couple of navy mix/tops and long tan flat boots.

I love it.

lavender11 · 05/10/2010 15:19

do you have to be a certain shape to wear it successfully i wonder? not sure i am the right shape, petite and not particularly curvy. tho not sure what the "right" shape would be for something like this
also i have it in black not navy
on the plus side it is quite warm when you put it on so might be good for winter

Look at the weird way the model is posing.

She is v attractive, but there is no way to make that garment look photogenic.

It's a nice middle of the road store, but this set of styles looks much better.

Very not sure about cocooon anything, would never buy/wear for myself.

lavender11 · 05/10/2010 15:33

yes catinthehat, i guess that was my first reaction when I opened it. i am trying to understand / decide whether i can wear it with any credibility. still not sure

I think if anything hides your silhouette from chest to hips, you are probably doing yourself a disservice.

notinmypocket · 05/10/2010 16:49

I just wear it to the office or to the shops, it's not meant to be for going out when you want to 'enhance' your figure. I like it as it's comfy and warm.

mippy · 05/10/2010 17:54

IMO, they do not work if you have a large bust.
