Have got a nice jacket, bright colour. Beyond that, I'm clueless. Don't want to go overdressed but nor do I want to turn up in my jeans (although very tempted to do smart dark jeans) Drinks first then meal out. helllllppppp!!

Are you still friendly with your old classmates, if so why not get together and discuss what they're going to be wearing, and what sort of level of 'dressiness' they're going for.
If not then I would say it's important to feel comfortable, so smart dark jeans are a good standby. You could also take your cue from the type of place that you're going to be eating, for instance. a bistro type place would be ideally suited to dark jeans and a nice top imho.

We had one last year, same age as you :o

Most people wore dark jeans with heels and nice tops if that's any help :)

KristinaM · 05/10/2010 08:57

Agree take cue form the type of place you are

meeting

I think smart jeans and top is a bit boring tbh

We had one last year which was a bit more formal

Almost all the women wore black dresses

The men wore suits or jackets with smart shirt , no tie

I'd wear something you really like, something you feel good in. Something that expresses you - sorry I know that sounds naff. So jeans if you like them, with your favourite top, or a skirt if you have one you love. I'd wear leather trousers with a long colourful coat/cardigan over them, but I guess I'm rather an exhibitionist!

hippyhen · 05/10/2010 09:25
  • sorry, just to add: given the nice jacket, I think smart jeans with smart shoes etc would be great.
MrsShrekTheThird · 05/10/2010 17:25

wow, thank you all.... didn't think I was going to get any help at all, so I'm so chuffed :)

Looks like the smartish jeans and nice top with my new fab jacket then. Might have some new shoes as a birthday treat (but what??) I think it is a bistro-y place. it's in a trendy (but hopefully not too pricey) area of the city. And thanks hippyhen, I'm liking the 'something that expresses you' bit. I wouldn't honestly be comfy in any kind of dress or skirt, I just don't wear them - except the occasional mini with leggings and huge cardi. Am seriously considering getting some of these...

Oh wow I love those! Dunno if I'd wear shoes like that though. I like shortish boots with jeans (not tucked in, I mean). I have some from Clerks of all places that I'm very fond of. Hope you have a good time!

hairguru · 06/10/2010 16:13

Get some nude court shoes or peep toes nude/camel is big this winter they go with everything and there are ones to suit every budget (topshop ,next, dune, aldo, louboutain)
There are also some amazing copies about of the new metal heeled stillettos from louboutain that dress up any simple jeans combo without trying to hard (check out asos, dune, office)
hope this helps and have a fab time Smile

MrsShrekTheThird · 06/10/2010 23:38

ta, Hippy Grin so now I've got my sparklybum jeans!
ahhh, now nude-ish colour shoes would be a great idea. I was thinking boring black, and I'm pretty much stuck with clarks as I need wide fit, unless there's anything good inh the wide range in New Look. Hadn't thought of that colour at all, and it would solve everything. Ohhh again I love mumsnet!!

I have a top tip, gleaned from friends who have been to reunions (I didn't go to the sort of school that does reunions Grin ) - make absolutely sure you get your hair done, wear good, subtle make-up, make sure your nails look trim.

That, apparently, was the clincher, and what all of them talked about.

MrsShrekTheThird · 07/10/2010 00:39

cool. Nails already done, hair appointment booked for Fri, am suitably shallow Grin

Have realised that I'm actually thinking of going in what amounts to jeans and t-shirt Hmm
albeit smart ones.
