Help me find a good moisturiser?

Hello wise ones - I am now officially going from a lurker to a poster on this site, so just a word of thanks for all the tips and advice I've already picked up from you all!

I have run out of both day cream and night cream and need to purchase something new. I have tended to jump around brands for the last few years as I haven't really been able to find moisturisers that I like. I don't want to spend a fortune, but am finding it's just a total minefield out there!

My main requirements are that I need something that is suitable for skin that is prone to greasiness, but also want something that will make me feel I am doing my bit for anti-aging! I am tempted by Protect and Perfect, but does it live up to it's hype?

Any words of wisdom you can give are much appreciated.

I like the Avene, ROC and Nick Lowe ranges, great products and fairly reasonable.

minibmw2010 · 01/10/2010 14:58

I have tried protect and perfect serum and that was quite good. Am now on the Olay Regenerist range and I like that (my skin likes it anyway).

Seasider · 01/10/2010 16:47

protect and perfect is good for both serum and new day cream. I have also read great things about Laura Mercier illuminating tinted moisturiser in fact I might just ask a few MNs about that now!

mitfordsisters · 01/10/2010 17:10

Neals Yard Remedies Frankincense Moisturiser is lovely tho about £20 a pot. Or Skin Simple from Tesco for about £2.50. I'm not lying - both excellent IMHO.

fayeso · 01/10/2010 20:59

Hi Mitfordsisters...do you mean skin wisdom from tesco? I have looked at this myself and thought I might give it a go.

orienteerer · 01/10/2010 21:00

Aldi

Bonsoir · 01/10/2010 21:01

Avène, as Carciofi said.

yousaidit · 01/10/2010 21:08

cyclax aloe vera lotion, big tub of green cream, £2.99 bargain homes, i've got fairly greasy skin and its making my skin look miles better, started using it on recommendation...

littledolly · 02/10/2010 09:29

Thanks for all your suggestions ladies - I'm going shopping today, so at least I am now armed with good advice.
Orienteerer I have heard great reviews about the Aldi one, but unfortunately I am in Northern Ireland and we don't have Aldi here Sad

I use Protect and Perfect - the serum, day cream, night cream and eye cream.

My skin is definitely smoother and glowier than it was - like yours it is prone to some greasiness.

Celery · 02/10/2010 09:39

I like Avene stuff too. And Embryolisse, which is a french brand, and be bought online.

Bucharest · 02/10/2010 09:42

The Neal's Yard is the best I've ever used.
The P and P serum really really does make a difference to the texture and tone of your skin, but I find the day and night creams the same as any other mid-price range creams.
I tried the Aldi one, it was OK- certainly OK for £2.99 but didn't make me come over all beautiful or anything (unlike the NY one Grin)
Elemis pro-collagen marine cream is lush and smells fab, but is pricey. (Shiney made me buy some from QVC last Christmas and I'm waiting till it's on soooperdooper discount again to get some more!)

ladylush · 02/10/2010 09:51

Bucharest - what NY one did you use?

Bucharest · 02/10/2010 10:07

The Frankincense one - not the nicest smelling cream, but really does wonders. I also tried their orange flower one over the summer (got a free tube with Red mag) that smelled divine (I love orange smelling things) but wasn't strong enough for my dryish ageing skin!

ilovemydogandMrObama · 02/10/2010 10:12

Avene hydrance is brilliant.

mrsden · 02/10/2010 10:16

Olay complete care multi radiance, I use the one for combination skin and it is the only moisturiser that leaves my skin soft and radiant without being greasy and making me spotty.

BelligerentGhoul · 02/10/2010 13:05

The Neals Yard ones are gorgeous. In fact, I need a trip to London to buy more. I know you can buy online but any excuse!

BelligerentGhoul · 02/10/2010 13:06

I like Olay Regenerist too - but NY better.

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 02/10/2010 14:05

If you have sensitive skin then I would try and get a sample to try behind your ear or somewhere before you buy.
I forked out for Olay Regenerist a couple of years ago, only for my skin to come up in a lovely blotchy rash across the top of my cheeks.

dingdong3 · 02/10/2010 14:39

littledolly as a Neal's Yard consultant, given your skin is oiler, I think Frankincense could be too rich for you. I use Yarrow and Comfrey which is lovely- mattifying and nice under make-up.
For anti aging, there is a Frankincense intense serum that you would use under your moisturiser. Very effective but is a bit ££.

BTW, I live in Belfast so can let you have some samples if you would like to try before you buy? No hard sell I promise. I don't run it as a business - just sell to friends and family directly and through occasional parties but mostly just took up the consultant thing to get cheap stuff for myself Grin

MrsColumbo · 02/10/2010 14:51

Same as the OP - oily t-zone and slightly drier cheeks - Protect and perfect is brilliant stuff and goes a long way. Other stuff I've tried is too rich.

SixtyFootDoll · 02/10/2010 14:54

I found that Protect and perfect blocked my pores.
I use Liz Earle, I too have greasy skin.
