Fellow tall women - where did you get your coat?

billybunter · 29/09/2010 11:12

I'm 5.11 tall, so I'm looking for a coat longer in the body and arms.

Thus far have trawled through long tall Sally and next's (tall section) websites but not found the coat I'm after.

I'd like something casual (wear with jeans), mid thigh length and but double breasted.

Does anyone know a good place for tall women to shop for coats?

Sorry that should be NOT double breasted. (my cup runneth over already)

i use new look or dorothy perkins tall range

5ft 11 too

Sariska · 29/09/2010 11:29

I'm 5'10" and I found one in Jigsaw - although that was 2 years ago. (Last year's was from JoJoMamanBebe...)

youngblowfish · 29/09/2010 17:33

I rely on Zara and Mango for properly cut clothes (I'm 5'10). I have three different coats from them and the length is just right, even when it comes to sleeves.

saltyseadog · 29/09/2010 17:34

Long Tall Sally have some decent coats (don't like LTS per se but their coats are OK - and most importantly fit properly). Look at 'Orlando', as I think that fits your bill.

Just read that you've already tried LTS .

CountessVonKnackerstein · 29/09/2010 21:13

How come nobody answered my thread on this exact same thing! :o

Littlewoods South range is ok, sleeve length reviews are not good though, thought maybe the sleeves could be unpicked?
I have a Next tall range fitted coat, it's a bit Del Boy esque but it fits like a glove.
TKMax are good if you have no DC's with you! Then you can try on a good thirty or so coats.

I am 5'11" too and have been looking for the ideal winter coat for SO many years because I need something warm for walking with kids to school. Nothing was ever long enough in arms and body or warm enough.

I too have coats from Next tall range and Long Tall Sally but these are smarter coats and not warm enough for the school walk.

Last week in desperation I bought a Merrell Isadore but today I tried on a North Face Arctic Parka and it fit everywhere - it was so lovely and warm - just wish I had seen it before I bought the merrell (so if anyone would like to buy a merrell at a knock down price just holler because I must have that north face parka!!!)

CountessVonKnackerstein · 30/09/2010 20:45

What's your Merrell look like!!

Hermya321 · 30/09/2010 23:32

I always bought mine in Topshop, the tall range in there for coats is quite good.

deaddei · 01/10/2010 02:46

I bought a lovely purple coat in Esprit last year- am 6 feet tall, and a good 16 top.
I have a Gap padded coat which is lovely and warm, even though dh calls it my chav coat. Shock
I really fancy a new practical coat- will look at North Face.

mysteryfairy · 01/10/2010 07:29

I am 5ft 11 too. I find sizing up (from a 10 to a 12) can often help a bit in sleeve length.

I bought this from Zara hoping it would be long enough and the sleeves are too short, it is going back:
zara long quilted anorak

I also got this from uniqlo - not glamorous but hopefully good for school run type situations and the sleeves are blissfully long and it's a good length on the body. I got the medium which supposedly equals 12 and would say as a warning it is pretty generously sized
uniqlo down coat

My smart coats are from Oilily. They seem to be cut for tall, narrow people.

summer111 · 01/10/2010 17:30

Sorry to gatecrash your post bb but does anyone also have suggestions for track suit bottoms - I'm only 5'9" but none of the sports branded ones come in a longer length - it's either short or regular Angry

gibba8 · 01/10/2010 19:48

Countess -if you google merrell isadore you will see it. It really is lovely, long, warm and fitted but now just prefer the north face one.

Summer111-Next sell track suit bottoms in long, extra long and tall range. I am 5'11" with very long legs and the tall range are about 4" too long for me. I am positive you will get a pair in Next that will fit.

deaddei · 01/10/2010 20:25

I second Next.

cyb · 01/10/2010 20:34

I'm 5 10 and have never had a problem finding coats

billy, are you SURe you want double breasted??

CountessVonKnackerstein · 01/10/2010 22:17

gibba that's a nice coat!! What size are you and what would you want for it?

Summer111 long tall Sally have some gorgeous tracksuits.

Ronaldinhio · 01/10/2010 22:49

what about this?

CountessVonKnackerstein · 02/10/2010 10:13

Very nice but £120 ?? :o

Ronaldinhio · 02/10/2010 10:28

try this my new object of desire

CountessVonKnackerstein · 02/10/2010 10:42

They've got them in Primark for about £15 :o

summer111 · 02/10/2010 15:58

Thank you ladies! Off now to see what I can get in Next!!!

gibba8 · 03/10/2010 19:00

Countess-paid £199 for it last saturday but would accept £150. It is a size 12. I am off to try on a north face parka tommorrow.

CountessVonKnackerstein · 04/10/2010 19:06

I'm a 14, oh well. It's a bit more than I would spend too, I'm sure if you put it on eBay you'd get it sold though?
