The perfect black leggings.

Can anyone recommend some really great black leggings? They have to be fairly long as I'm tall, quite thick, hold their shape and wash well.
Thanks!!

I like M&S ones and they come in a longer length.

sparkle1977 · 29/09/2010 11:07

I got some in H&M that are long and thick too.

potplant · 29/09/2010 11:10

American Apparel. I'm 5 10 and they are the perfect length. You can get them on Amazon.

carciofi · 29/09/2010 11:25

I like Topshop leggings, they do a tall range.

kylesmybaby · 29/09/2010 11:27

i recently bought the Indigo M&S ones and they have gone saggy at the knee. also the M&S Limited Edition ones and they are saggy as well. probably just me i like them tight. i am size 10/12 and brought a size 10 but wish i'd gone for a size 8.

so watching with interest.

raffiiscool · 29/09/2010 12:47

I have the M&S limited ones and they are terrible - baggy at the waist and low in the rise - I am forever pulling them up.

They are 6 months old though so maybe they have changed them now.

Would not recommend..

I ordered a couple of pairs from John Lewis.

French Connection - a bit like opaque tights, just not thick enough.

Phase Eight - lovely, thick leggings but a small was baggy-ish on me and I don't think they'll hold their shape.

So, still searching for the elusive pair.

PotPlant, if you're around, are the AA leggings nice and thick and non-shiney? Grin

employmentlawquery · 30/09/2010 19:05

Boden - if you get 2 pairs you can use the £10 off code. Very long and thick and stretchy.

Millie1 · 30/09/2010 19:15

They were too baggy on me - maybe I ought to re-order and size down.

vintage4 · 30/09/2010 19:41

i read on here Hush ones are good

redpanda · 30/09/2010 19:53

Whistles are thick, keep shape and colour - just a bit expensive.......... (I got a pair during one of their 20% off promotions)

takingchances · 30/09/2010 20:24

Best ones I got were from Next. Super soft and did not go all baggy and minging at the knee. Bought a pair from M&S on Saturday, wore them ONCE and have bag-knee action already!!!

pushmepullyou · 30/09/2010 20:31

Oasis are worth a try. Have had mine since Christmas and they're still OK

happilyeverafter · 30/09/2010 20:55

I have M&S limited collection ones which come very big and have gone saggy but they are ancient. I think in a smaller size a new pair would be fine.

Boden ones are very good this season, still have to go down at least one full size if not two.

I'm veering towards opaques more so far this season though.

I've had mixed experiences. I used to buy Primark - very cheap and were very good for a few washes (no knee bag) but then little bits of the lycra or elastine started showing along the inside seams, looked really werid, like little silver hairs!

Then tried H&M. Really good fit, comfy too. I went to buy some more and wouldn't you know it, inconsistent H&M had changed supplier or something, suddenly the leggings they sell now are thicker, not as soft, quite uncomfortable.

Then I read about M&S ones being brilliant. Be warned, they do so many different types and brands of legging, it can be hard to find the ones that have good reviews BUT I managed to find the ones that had the highest customer ratings on the M&S website (from real customers) but I totally disagreed with them. £8 for leggings that are all wrinkly and baggy around the knee when you first try them on is NOT cool. Uncomfy and just don't fit properly.

It's a legging nightmare out there!

Millie1 · 01/10/2010 13:50

I had a look in Next this morning - you could see through their £8 pairs. They didn't have any others - it's a small store. Grrrr.

Millie1 · 01/10/2010 15:26

Okay, me again! Are leggings at their best in cotton with elastacine or in viscose with elastacine? Thanks!

Seasider · 01/10/2010 16:45

Cotton with elastacine. Warehouse has had good quality non bagging thick leggings as recommended by a young salesgirl at John Lewis and she had the pick of many brands there. And she was right about the Warehouse ones.

Millie1 · 01/10/2010 16:48

Brilliant- shall look there, thanks Seasider

topsi · 01/10/2010 17:25

Isabella oliver ones are nice, a bit ££ but are nice and long and are washing well

ladylush · 01/10/2010 18:09

I also hear AA ones are fab. You can check out the reviews on their site.

elterwater · 01/10/2010 18:19

Windu - how long ago was it when you bought the Primark ones? My dd reckons their £4 support leggings are the best ever. They keep their shape and never bag.

shandydrinker · 05/10/2010 12:53

best ones imo are new look, but im med height /post natal in build... They have a tall range so it might be worth a look in there.
