French plait

Anyone got a fool proof method or is it just a case of practising?

Find it really hard to keep the three bits separate whilst taking in the extra from the side iyswim.

I think it is a question of practise. I really got the hang of this when I had long hair, but found it difficult doing it for other people.
I have quite wavy hair which think makes it easier, if you have very smooth, silky hair some sort of product might help.
Start the plait and hold the 'top' two pieces separate in one hand, then drop the third bit and scoop it back up with the extra and plait it back in then repeat on the other side.

Youtube is your friend - it's how I learnt when dd2 wanted her hair like this.

I find it easier to do (and pull tight) if done with damp hair.

I struggled for ages and then was shown by my friend.

I think practice is the key though (and a co-operative DD!)

Well I have only done it twice for my daughter.

Strangely it´s seemed harder each time!

Tried for the third time this morning & it was going well & I was managing to keep the hair tight & then I was at the stage where you just plait the long hair that´s left iyswim, & I couldn´t do it!

Ended up just putting a band round it so that she´d got a french plait on her head & it was just a pony tail rather than a plait at the bottom.

I think I should have started again tbh but it was going so well & then it was as if I let go & it started to look loose & I couldn´t differentiate the three bits of the plait properly.

That´ll servr me right for thinking I could do it just because the first time worked OK!
