Going to be a bridesmaid - help needed with dress search.

The bride will be wearing [[
www.monsoon.co.uk/bridal-dresses/isabelle-dress/invt/65210741/&bklist=icat,5,shop,women,bridal,bridaldresses this dress]]

There will be me and another friend as bridesmaids and another friend's little girls as flower girls. Flower girl dresses not bought yet, but we're thinking probably white with ribbons/a sash or something that'll tie in with whatever bridesmaidsa are wearing.

It's a civil wedding in a big city, reception in a gastropub-type place, so the whole feeling is not too formal - in fact quite relaxed.

Bride has given us £100 each and basically said just get whatever as long as it doesn't clash with her dress (e.g. maxi satin dress would look daft, as would something all ultra tailored/tight skirt). i don't mind trumping up a bit extra (say £50?) if needs be, other bridesmaid is the same.

There is no colour 'theme' as yet, bride quite relaxed about colour - just nothing too wacky. I did find a nice champagne dress from coast, but didn't suit other bridesmaid. Have also looked at monsoon, not seen anything that appealed.

Help! Not sure where to look. Any ideas/inspiration on what would go with that dress?

Oh - and I will be am a size 10 and 5'5'' & other bridesmaid is 5'8'' & size 12.

(sorry to post and run, DH needs laptop for rest of eve for work!)

Debenhams have a lot of good dresses (and have a sale starting today so you might be able to grab a bargain!)

When is the wedding? You might find that the choice of dresses increases closer to Christmas.

Good luck

Tillyscoutsmum · 28/09/2010 12:38

What time of year is the wedding ?

purple good for winter

dark grey

maxi

grey

pink

bit different

over budget

Not sure if they are "bridesmaidy" enough ...?

snugglejunkie · 28/09/2010 13:32

Wedding is beginning of April.
Technically plenty of time, but the colour of the bridesmaid dresses will influence the invites, flowers etc so sooner is better!

Will check out Debenhams sale

There's some georgous dresses there Tillyscoutsmum, however they are a bit at the tailored/shiny satin end and I'm not sure they'd complement the bride's dress.

The dress me & the bride found and liked was this from coast (without the black ribbon), however the fit was odd on the other bridesmaid. Might give a general direction we're going in? However style doesn't have to be strapless.

Argh - would much prefer just to be told what I have to wear - I'm rubbish at this!!

This could look lovely

higgle · 28/09/2010 16:13

MentalFloss, that is lovely!

JustBeachy · 28/09/2010 16:23

Karen Millen has some nice ones, my fav is this on in green

or blue from Oasis

I like a fresh colour in the Spring Grin

snugglejunkie · 28/09/2010 18:27

Tillyscoutsmum - that 'bargin' one is indeed! And v pretty - on shortlist

Fab dress Mentalfloss (love your name too!), but I think a little too much detail round the neck. Though would love it if I was going as a guest.

Justbeachy - that karen millen one is georgous! However too fitted. Other one too short - I'm thinking only just above the knee at the highest. Like the colour of the second one.

lemonbergamot - ooo hadn't thought of bhs. The blue one is actually a lovely springy colour - will put on shortlist. Put off the green one by the way it makes the models boobs look funny - looks a bit too clingy in that area. Not promising for my recently-post bfing examples!
Next one beautiful - not sure about the long sleeves tho for bridesmaidyness.
Coast one not available in size 12, but v pretty.

Ooo you are all fab, much better at this than me Smile

What about this?

geekygiraffe · 28/09/2010 19:43

Sounds similar to my upcoming wedding and dress - my bridesmaids will be in dresses from Ted Baker. Def worth a look, although all the dresses right now seem a bit festive. Is there time to wait til the new Spring season stuff arrives?

Tillyscoutsmum · 29/09/2010 08:14

If the budget could go up to £150, then you could even look at "proper" bridesmaid dresses

like this

or this

or this

You could then pretty much pick your colour etc. Quite often, US websites have them much cheaper and you can order them online

whoneedssleepanyway · 29/09/2010 08:28

we had this
www.lkbennett.com/clothing/dresses/30513VIOLET

for my sister's wedding but in french navy which they don't do anymore but style would go with Bride's dress I think.

does somewhat blow the budget although LK Bennett do discount vouchers in magazines every now and then and this weekend just gone they had 15% off promotion if you were signed up to their website so you could keep an eye out.

Tillyscoutsmum · 29/09/2010 09:59

Oooh - that LK Bennett dress is stunning. Love the blue

snugglejunkie · 29/09/2010 12:22

Justbeachy - I really like the dress, not too sure if others would agree with the colour, but will suggest anyway!

lemon - nice, but bit too sparkly with the rhinestone detail I think.

Tilly... That first apple green dress is really lovely - will deffo suggest it. Though a bit twitchy about how much it'd cost.

whoneeds.. tis a stunning dress indeed! Again, will put forward, though you're right, it is at the pricier end.

Thanks for the help guys!

Quick update: so I've sent shortlist to bride & other bridesmaid and looks like this is the front runner (cheers tillyscoutsmum!).

Going to order one & try on & stand next to bride in her dress see if it looks good. Would be good if it is the one as would mean extra cash for shoes/maybe a shrug or something (which no doubt will be another post if it is!)
Fingers crossed...
