I think I want a colourful coat... but I'm scared

I've always been overweight and very self conscious as a result. My philosophy on clothes has always been 'wear dark colours so noone will notice you.' But I'm getting a bit fed up, and seeing this coat has made me think I want a nice brightly coloured one.

I have the same colourings as this model so I can get away with brighter colours. I'm 5'4 and a size 12 on top and 16 on the bottom Sad.

Can I have honest opinions on the coat and whether I'm too fat to get away with it. Alternatively, any other nice bright coats.

prefer this colour

I have a Paul Smith coat in the same shade as the Next one. I bought it 3 winters ago. I love it and always feel very "put together" no matter what's going on beneath :o

Go for it :-)

I was about to post stay away from double breasted, and then clicked on the link Blush

That said, if you are bottom heavy, then double breasted would help to balance you as TPF says.

Can you go to a shopping service like in Debenhams and get an idea of what suits and what doesn't?

ggirl - I do like the purple but I prefer the cut of the pink coat. I always have this problem with coats - I can never find something just right.

Go to tesco they have some lovely winter coats and are 20% off at the moment too.

LacksDaisies - I think double breasted might be good in terms of balancing me.

I'm always far too shy to use any of those personal shopping services, though it might be good to get a second opinion - I don't have many female friends that I can go shopping with.

I'm a size 16, but taller, and I haven't worn a black or neutral coat since I was 21. Do it! It will cheer you up.
