Foundation advice. Recommendations and can I return one?

Hi All,

I packed up DD (6wks) and headed to Boots today determined to treat myself to some decent foundation...having been pregnant all yr my skin has been really changeable so I have been holding off.

As it is I found myself being really indecisive and faltering at paying premium prices...before spending £8 on a Boujois one. Now I am kicking myself because I have put it on and it is irritating my skin, so it might have been cheap but it was a false economy as I don't think I can wear it!

So I have two questions:

  • Is there any chance I can return an opened foundation to Boots as I think I'm allergic to it? Or should I just write this off and chalk it up to experience?
  • Can anyone recommend a good one to go for? I'm happy to pay premium prices for something good. I have pretty good skin so don't need anything really heavy, need to even skin tone as much as anything, quite pale, tending towards dry not greasy and prefer the natural look where poss.

Thank you!

Lily Lolo do little trial sized pots for about £1 if you want to try some before you buy.

the laura mercier tinted moisturiser is good
i'm devastated that chanel vitalumiere creme is being discontinued and don't know what to do
apparently dior nude is good

Sorry i meant Clinique Almost Make-Up. Before u wear any foundation do prep your skin - cleanse, tone + moisturise twice a day, exfoliate twice a week. Choose products esp for your skin type + lifestyle. So my skin is 'normal to dry', sensitive, early 30s and gets exposed to sunlight, central heating, wind and traffic fumes so i chose suitable products.

MrsC2010 · 03/10/2010 09:48

Yes, I took it back without a quibble, they didn't even ask for the receipt. They said that the companies like the feedback, so they're sending it back to Bourjois. It has taken a week and some intensive TLC to get my skin back to 'normal'!

Still haven't gotten around to getting a new one, am making a list of the recommendations and am planning a trip to try them all! I'm too indecisive.

Giorgio Armani Face Fabric is fantastic, light but gives good coverage.

MrsC2010 · 03/10/2010 10:20

Has anyone ever tried any of the Dermalogica tinted moisturisers/foundations?

I use their moisturisers/cleansers etc and they've been the only brand that works on my sensitised/excema prone skin. So I was wondering if their 'cosmatic' products were any good?

Diorskin Nude really is very good. I keep trying out others, but always go back to this one.

LaraJade · 04/10/2010 09:32

Would love Diorskin but can't afford it. Apparently it has an airbrushing effect? :)

BustleInYourHedgerow · 04/10/2010 19:13

Brought it back and got it exchanged maybelline one, usually use it when I'm cash strapped and can't afford MAC, it does a good enough job. My skin is in shite though, seriously pissed off. I look and feel like I've had a facial peel.

EauRouge · 04/10/2010 19:30

I use www.maccosmetics.co.uk/product/spp.tmpl?CATEGORY_ID=CAT21853&PRODUCT_ID=PROD66214MACselect moistureblend]], it's pricier than some others but as I only use it to correct skintone and not all over my face it lasts ages. It's quite light if you use it sparingly, it blends really well too.
