Fashionistas- I need your opinions!

I managed to get a Gap 30% off voucher and bought several things at the weekend- mainly several dresses.

I love dresses but have tended to wear the more wintery ones over jeans/ leggings. I really love the bright, thick winter tights that are around at the moment, however, and would like to start wearing these too!

I tried one of the dresses (1st link) on this morning to show my DH and he was not impressed- thought it was awful and sack like :( I think he is used to me wearing more fitted clothes generally).
I am quite tall and slim (8-10) and small on top.

Could I have some opinions from you ladies with more fashion sense to give me a bit more confidence with a new look?

Links below:

Apologies for the essay and many thanks!

Your links are not working.

overmydeadbody · 27/09/2010 12:13

hmmm, strange, but your links are not working

overmydeadbody · 27/09/2010 12:14

either that or the GAP website is down...

RipMacWinkle · 27/09/2010 12:14

Ha ignore mine - I've arsed it up

oops Blush

abracadabra35 · 27/09/2010 12:32

Oh no- I am sorry!

I will link to the main Gap page for dresses and then describe each one which might be quicker anyway. I just tried the link and it does work:

www.gap.eu/browse/category.do?cid=57372

No1 it the 'corduroy pocket shift dress'. It is pictured in maroon but I have dark grey.

No2- under 'knits' section. The first dress, called 'plaid dress'

No 3, continuing under 'knits' 'cap sleeve ponte dress', in a light grey colour and more fitted style.

No 4-'drape bodice dress'- in grey, directly under the 'plaid dress'

Hope someone has a bit of time and patience left!!

I am not a fashionista, so my comments may not be any use to you. I like the idea of the cord one, it is not a slim fitting dress, comfortable, easy to wear and not really a figure showing dress, if you like it and feel good in it keep wearing it, I think the plaid one is similar in shape - loose?

Drape bodice dress, good, plain, simple, it will show off your figure more? As will the cap sleeve ponte dress. I think they are all okay.

abracadabra35 · 27/09/2010 15:04

fiveorangepips- thank you for replying.
Yes, the first two are quite loose fitting. I don't normally wear that style but they do feel comfortable!

Anyone else? :)

They are all nice looking dresses.
My favourite (from pics only) is no.3

Eglu · 27/09/2010 20:41

I like all of those dresses. I am now wanting a trip to Gap for a couple of those for work.

abracadabra35 · 27/09/2010 21:24

That's great- thanks.
So you don't think the first too are too tent like then?

Hi, my disclaimer also is that I'm not really S&B (but I do love to hang out here Smile)

I love no 2 and 3.

However, I am size 8, 5 feet nothing so much prefer more fitted things. I'd definitely buy these 2 for work (and have bookmarked these for when I go back in a couple of months!) You're tall and slim Envy so can get away with them all!

abracadabra35 · 28/09/2010 13:07

RipMacW- Thank you for replying! I'm not sure who sees themselves as S&B anyway! I'm pleased you like the dresses.

I tried the drape bodice dress but it didn't do anything for me (too clingy on the bottom half)- a shame as I had the 30% off too.
I've now got the drop waist knit dress but haven't tried it on yet (am not too hopeful as it looks a bit sack-like)

I think the fitted ones (esp the cap sleeve ponte) are nice but I have no opportunity to wear them anymore.

abracadabra35 · 28/09/2010 16:11

I think the drape bodice dress is maybe better if you are not too well endowed (like me :()

The drop waist knit dress would definitely look sack like on me- better on someone with more curves. Let us know how you get on!
