Daytime shoes for SAHM

Feel like I want a change as I'm 30 soon.

What do other people wear during the day? I've always worn trainers or flipflops. I want something more grown up (so I can pretend)

I'm 5foot 11 and don't do heels, I also don't wear boots over jeans as it really doesnt suit my arse. I walk everywhere so would have to be sensible and comfortable.

Any ideas?

I don't ever wear trainers (apart from for exercise (rare at the mo!), ballet pumps are my equivalent, or flip flops in summer.

Flat boots not worn over jeans? Brogues or ankle boots are very trendy at the mo too I think.

FloraFinching · 25/09/2010 14:33

ballet pumps with trousers - new look are good, and do leather and suede

biker boots with skirts

Ballet pumps for summer or converse into Autumn.

In winter I wear flat ankle boots under jeans/trousers

PacificDogwood · 25/09/2010 14:36

I have lived in these since arrival of DS1 7 years ago...

I wear Birkies indoors

bronze · 25/09/2010 15:04

ballet pumps would just not handle my lifestyle.

Brogues? As in the horrible pointy mens suit shoes?

Riven I'm currently wearing some regatta walking shoes. I find them comfy and practical but I want to look a bit smarter (maybe dressys the word) some of the time.

What sort of ankle boots do people have?

I'm currently renovating my wardrobe bit by bit but thats a whole other thread I may need help with. I've reached the pits of frumpy at only 29

I would love some decent long boots but they all seem to look too short on me or the calves don't fit

Sorry
I think I'm just a bit down about the state of me at the moment

OP posts:
sfxmum · 25/09/2010 15:11

indoors nothing/socjks

outdoors flip flops/ birkies; boots, ballet flats, trainers converse type

bronze · 25/09/2010 15:17

flora is this the kind of thing you mean?
Is that long or knee length skirts. Just cos ankle boots look a little odd on me unless the tops are covered

OP posts:
bronze · 25/09/2010 15:17

actually they say theyre knee but they would be mid calf on me

OP posts:
FloraFinching · 25/09/2010 15:38

this kind of thing

bronze · 25/09/2010 15:47

oh pants Sad that ssort of thing always look silly on me as theyre too short or the longer ones bag loosely around the leg

Montifer · 25/09/2010 15:51

I live in these with jeans and love my Duo boots which are great if off the shelf boots don't suit your calf shape.

yama · 25/09/2010 16:01

I'm on mat leave and have been mostly wearing various Fly London sandals and Boots (now that winter has arrived in Scotland).

For casual, I have been cutting about in these purple. They are very comfy.

mysteryfairy · 25/09/2010 16:15

I am a similar height to you and have the Kensington boots you linked to. They are baggy round my legs even on tightest buckle but I think they look better that way. They look great with short skirt, knitted dress etc. Yes they are shorter on me than on someone of average height but they do make my legs look very long which is supposedly a good thing...

I have these for work in green patent:
fly loaded and quite like them as they are non chunky, flat but look a bit less clompy and therefore a bit more dressy than many flat books and best of all reasonably snug round the leg. I am shoe size 6 though and my feet are allegedly out of proportion to my height - think I would have a real problem with baggy fitting if I needed size 8 boots.

I do wear ballet pumps with jeans but find that boots are more forgiving of a slightly too short inside leg.

TaffyandTeenyTaffy · 25/09/2010 16:18

Clarks are worth a look for comfy shoes - I wear their Unstructured range Un Bridge in Claret patent (sorry cant do a linky thingy!)

mysteryfairy · 25/09/2010 16:22

BTW the boots in this thread are gorgeous and a really good price:
M and S knee high buckle boot

They are described as knee high but I think they would look good a little shorter and would be great with skirt, leggings or trousers so very versatile.

bronze · 25/09/2010 16:24

taffy I was just looking at them (and waiting for page to load) thats scary
I think looking at prices I may be asking for some boots for christmas

How about something from here

or

here?

Some quite funky, both brands very comfy.

Short message as typing one handed as feeding DD!

Why do boots over jeans 'not suit your arse'?! More details, please! You are cutting out a whole slew of really attractive, comfortable shoes by limiting yourself to shoes to wear under jeans only (e.g. granny boots!).

bronze · 25/09/2010 17:50

because the kind of jeans you can get boots over make my arse look worse.
I need bootcut to balance out my mile wide hips. I'm not fat, just wide.
Finding jeans that fit my small waisted wide hipped tallness is difficult anyway

BikeRunSki · 25/09/2010 17:58

I walk everywhere with DS, live in the countryside, work in a city, don't do heels, don't do skinny jeans and wear these nearly all the time when it is too cold for Converse or Birkies. They are short enough to go well under bootleg/flared trousers, and tall enough to go well with skirts. I have them in red, black and brown. I am covetting the purple too though! Warm, dry, comfy, waterproof, durable - my oldest ones are about 5 years old.

nancydrewrocked · 25/09/2010 18:25

Flip flops and ballet flats for summer, converse when I feel the need for socks and once it gets cold riding style boots or Ugg (yeah yeah I know)

But I have just bought theses: KG Sadlers and don't plan to wear anything else all winter - bring on the cold!

mysteryfairy · 25/09/2010 18:33

Bronze - I think we might be long lost twins based on the details you are revealing about your figure!

I've just got some levis curve ids with an inside leg of 33". They do gape less at the waist than a lot of jeans and are not a bad length. If the rest of you is skinny and you have broad hips can you not wear skinny jeans with long tunics, cardigans etc? That's what I do. I started out in £8 primarni skinnies which always required a belt and definitely had to be worn tucked into boots but wearing them converted me to skinnier jeans - you could maybe experiment with them at low cost?

BTW after years of experience I think it is much harder to find nice flat winter shoes than nice flat boots. Sadly I am 9 years older than you so have had more time to find this out...

HLaurens · 25/09/2010 18:37

Have you ever looked at El Naturalista boots and shoes? They are extremely comfortable and very sturdy and a bit more interesting than your average shoe.
