Can someone tell me what the sizing on the Haven is like? I'm a 16/18 on tip, but worried their 16/18 will be too small.

lilac21 · 19/10/2010 21:33

I have one, wore it for the first time today. Mine is grey as I couldn't bear black, I look like a corpse with black near my face :)

ThighsWideShitItsAGhost · 19/10/2010 21:35

and the fitting? spot on or a bit tight/baggy?

lilac21 · 19/10/2010 22:03

Mine's a small and a bit big on the hips really, fine everywhere else but then I have no bust to speak of...

I'm 5ft 4 and if I were 6 inches taller the sleeves would be way too short I think.

I would look on the American merrell website for a review of sizing.

The Haven is totally waterproof pigindisguise, I wore it all last winter, which was a really bad winter, if you look at the description of it online, at Merrell it says it is waterproof, so the shop assistant got it wrong!

Haven reviews here discussing sizing.

hi - did you sell your isadore in the end? if not let me know the size as i might be interested!

gibba8 · 23/10/2010 18:57

hi sparklyone-it is a medium size 12. Still got all labels attached. Was going to try and sell in on ebay but have not worked out how to sell on ebay yet. Let me know if you are still interested.

gorehaginhellsbum · 24/10/2010 10:09

I don't like the Haven (must be the only one!)

It's far too reminiscent of old school coats and that dull grey makes me look grey. Didn't like the cloth material.
I'm sure it's practical, being warm and waterproof, but I don't think I could wear it without feeling positively grim.

I'm a 10/12 and bought the medium. It's a good fit so would say it's a "trim" fit. Not much room for sweaters underneath (though you wouldn't need much)

bump!

FiveOrangePips · 07/01/2011 13:40

Gore it is all those things - practical, warm and waterproof which has been very important to me the last couple of winters, it is not stylish in S&b designer terms, though the old school look has a certain charm imho.

Practicality wins for me on this item, I have to walk 20 minutes to school, then wait 30 minutes between ds finishing and dd finishing, in sub zero temperatures. The average temperature was -1 for UK in December, but I live in NE Scotland, we have regularly had -5 and below waiting in the playground, -11 was about the worst, when during the walk home the temperature dropped by another 2 degrees.... Yes, the Merrell might not be a fashion coat, and I wish sometimes we had a sub section in S&b for those of us not purely driven by fashion! but it is a great coat for the money and considering the alternatives, I cannot afford North Face prices.

I bought the Haven in brown Nov 2009 and was very happy with it......fast forward to now, and NOT so. Because of the fabric outer shell, I was reluctant to wash it, in case it impaired its 'water Resistant/Repellent' coating, so NEVER did Blush Well, I was out for once in rainy London, minus my car, safe in the knowledge I was in 'Haven'. However I immediately noticed that the rain was soaking into the Merrell Haven, whereas before, it would just 'sit' atop the fabric's surface. I only had a t-shirt underneath, and when I took the coat off, sure enough, my arms were damp to the touch Shock. So I called the online store where I purchased it, they told me the Resistant/Repellent attribute looses strengh with each wash. I informed then I had NEVER washed it, and was put on hold. They then told me, get this, that because I'd never washed it, the dirt particles are the cause of the loss of Resistant/Repellent feature Hmm. I reiterated both arguements back to her and she realised the contradiction of her reasons, so duly put me on hold, again. Now I had the pleasure of talking to the manager, who said they couldn't take the coat back, however i buy these two products, Tec wash cleaner and tx direct both by nik wax. Both are good to use in a washing machiene, however one must take care to remove all traces of detergents, which will impair the products performance of recoating the Haven's Water Resistant/Repellent feature. I will update if I do got this route, however, I'm trying to push for a new one Wink.

HTH

That is awful Active, poor you!

I have washed mine and it hasn't leaked, I did think about treating it with fabric waterproof treatment, I have already bought, in preparation for the Scottish spring weather.... I would be gutted if it leaked,it being totally waterproof is one of the reasons I like it so much. Seeing the water run off it, rather than being soaked into it is quite satisfying in a downpour. Would it be worth getting in touch with Merrell to see what they say?

FiveOrangePips · 07/01/2011 14:12

this might be next winter's version of the Haven.

FiveOrangePips · 07/01/2011 14:21

Active you could contact Merrell and see what they say?contact here

ActiveC · 07/01/2011 14:43

FiveOrangePoints, I contacted Merrel, ands they said I should reproof it it the first instance and then call them back if I still have a problem. I will try this.

FiveOrangePips · 07/01/2011 16:26

It is worth a try. I hope it works. Mine hasn't been tested by the rain for quite a while, just snow and bitter cold.
