wide leg high-waisted tres feminine trousers?

teafortwo · 22/09/2010 21:02

All my Mummy friends are tottering around in skinnies. A craze I haven't fully embraced.

I, in contrast; am developing a deep desire to wear wide leg high-waisted tres feminine trousers and then sort of mooch around the place in the style of a Nancy Mitford character.

Would this be very very cool (I saw some trousers just like the ones in my head in Chloe catwalk collection) or a very very stupid fashion error that will make me look like I am possibly my dd's Granny???

TIA Grin

I think it could work definitely but haven't seen any but then am too short to wear such trews.

Did you ever get your jacket?

teafortwo · 23/09/2010 20:36

And these are the high street ones I saw (that match my teacher wages...)Grin

Hi Tracey!

Actually funny you asked about the jacket... No I haven't got it... yet...

It is my birthday very soon and I have it as first, second, third and fourth favourite thing on my list!!! So fingers crossed one might be finding itself in my wardrobe before the Autumn chill sets in, in earnest! Grin

Those Mango ones are lovely. Thank goodness for the return of the high waisted trousers. I really can't be doing with hipsters - all that muffin top is so unflattering. Glad to see that back of that particular fashion.

I reckon you would look very cool in such trousers so long as you are not too short.

scampadoodle · 23/09/2010 20:48

I love those kind of trousers & think they are tres chic although they don't mix well with bicycles...

teafortwo · 23/09/2010 20:50

Niecie - I came of age in the 1990s so in my adult life I have never warn anything but hipsters, really. I worry that high waisted will make normal gal (me Grin) look all bum and tum...???

I will pop into Mango soon to try them on!

BUT... What shoes and tops would look good with such yummy trousers???

They are lovely. I adore high waisted trousers.

They will lok very smart, and are so much better than skinny trousers.

teafortwo · 23/09/2010 21:09

Eglu - Grin Thanks!

cruelladepoppins · 23/09/2010 21:46

I like them. I would wear with fitted blouse or top - v neck - definitely tucked in! Maybe a cute, shortish cardi over that. If you are blest with big norks, don't wear a poloneck or a scoop neck - you will look horribly out of proportion. With reasonable, feminine heels but not stilettos.

Niecie · 23/09/2010 22:06

teafortwo - I did my growing up a decade before you and trousers up to the waist were all the rage. I reckon they are much more slimming than hipsters but I suppose it depends on your shape.

I am pear shaped with a relatively small waist. Hipsters fall off me, I am forever pulling them up. High waisted trousers go in above the (now) flabby tummy so sit nicely above the hip and don't fall down. The trick is not to have too many pleats if a tummy is a big problem as it will exacerbate them but I am sure you will get flat fronted ones somewhere.

Go and try them on - you know you want to!!Smile

I have a date with Mango and plan to report back!!! Grin

Ooh I've been looking for high waisted trousers for the last 2 years.... typical that they turn up now when I can't buy them as back into mat wear [grrr]

Mango ones are lovely.

Not truly high waisted but feminine in that Katherine Hepburn kind of way are these from FWM and this cheaper version from Phase Eight.

I have the second pair but will sadly only fit into them for another couple of week sprobably but they are very comfy, feminine and lovely flannel for autumn/winter.

teafortwo · 25/09/2010 15:35

Hmmmm - Norkily, I am a big big fan of Phase Eight trousers. At the end of my student daze I bought some to graduate in and since then have always had at least one pair in my wardrobe. The fit is so very very nice!

Incase you are looking for nice preggy trousers my best not too dear maternity trousers were all from Mamas and Papas.

NorkilyChallenged · 25/09/2010 15:46

Thanks teafortwo, will have to look (never owned any M&P mat wear before)

Phase Eight trousers lovely but about 3 inches too long so had to have them taken up, apart from that, they are great Grin

teafortwo · 25/09/2010 15:51

TRUE - Phase Eight trousers ar always very long and because I am lazy I can never be bothered to get them turned up/turn them up myself the couple of cms I need so they all end up being thrown away on account of tatty bottoms. Blush

Am utterly depressed by quick trawl of maternity workwear, or anything wear actually. Forgot that pregnant women apparently only want to wear black Hmm

Are you going to try on those Mango trousers?

teafortwo · 25/09/2010 15:59

YY (I just learnt that this means "yes yes" and have been looking for an opportunity to use it!!!

I might pop along later but for now am busy mning tidying the flat...

My entire maternity wardrobe was from M&P. I really found their clothing a nice balance between fashion, comfort and value... this was over four years ago though!
